Summary
Product identification
DOWEX™ MONOSPHERE™ 650C UPW (H) Uniform Particle Size Strong Acid Cation Resin for Single or Mixed Bed Demineralization for Ultrapure Water Applications
Description
DOWEX™ MONOSPHERE™ 650C UPW (H) is a uniform, high purity, strong acid cation exchange resin. It is recommended for:
- Roughing ion exchange loop in a 2-bed system followed by a mixed bed.
- Working mixed bed following reverse osmosis.
The dark color distinguishes it from light-colored DOWEX MONOSPHERE 550A anion resin, making it suitable for regenerable mixed beds. This UPW grade resin offers efficient rinse profiles to conductivity and (delta) TOC endpoints.

Suggested Operating Conditions
- Maximum operating temperature:
- Single bed: 120ºC / 250ºF
- Mixed bed: 60ºC / 140ºF
- Resin bed depth, min.:
- Single bed: 800 mm (2.6 ft)
- Mixed bed: 450 mm (1.5 ft)
- Flow rates:
- Service/fast rinse: 10–60 m/h (4–24 gpm/ft²)
- Backwash: See Figure 1
- Regeneration/displacement: 4–10 m/h (1.6–4 gpm/ft²)
- Total rinse requirement: 2–5 BV*
- Regenerant: 1–8% H₂SO₄, 4–8% HCl
*1 BV (Bed Volume) = 1 m³ solution per m³ resin or 7.5 gals per ft³ resin.
UPW Specific Properties
- Rinse characteristics: UPW grade resins are rinsed with +17.5 Megaohm·cm water to meet stringent ionic and organic residuals.
- Ionic conductivity rinse down, max. (as packaged): 1 µS/cm
- TOC rinse down to 5 ppb: 20 BV (see Figure 3)
Hydraulic Characteristics
Figure 1 shows bed expansion as a function of backwash flow rate and water temperature. Figure 2 shows pressure drop data as a function of service flow rate and water temperature (valid at the start of service with clear water and a correctly classified bed). Figure 3 shows conductivity and TOC rinse performance.
Packaging
- 5 cubic foot fiber drum
