Performance

AMBERLITE IRA96RF resin is a macroreticular weak base anion exchange resin designed for the removal of strong acids from water, often following a strongly acidic cation exchange resin. Its stable structure and porosity provide resistance to osmotic shock and efficient adsorption/desorption of large organic molecules, protecting downstream strong base anion exchangers from organic fouling. The particle size distribution is optimized for packed bed and floating bed applications.

Operating capacity depends on ionic load, CO₂ content, SO₄/FMA ratio, and water temperature. Refer to Engineering Data Sheet EDS 0254 A for calculation of operating capacity in water treatment.

The resin demonstrates excellent resistance to attrition from osmotic or physical stress and outstanding resistance to oxidation.

Hydraulic characteristics

Figures 1 and 2 in the original document provide data for bed expansion (as a function of backwash flow rate and water temperature) and pressure drop (as a function of service flow rate and water temperature), respectively. These data are valid for clear water at the start of a service run with a correctly classified bed and require correction based on the specific solution being treated.

Limits of use

This resin is suitable for industrial uses. For pharmaceutical, food processing, or potable water applications, consult Rohm and Haas for guidance.
