Performance

Characteristic Reaction

R-CH₂-NH-CH₂-PO₃Na₂ + M²⁺ → R-CH₂-NH-CH₂-PO₃M + 2 Na⁺

Relative Affinity

The relative affinity of this resin for the various cations decreases in the order: Pb²⁺ > Cu²⁺ > Zn²⁺ > Mg²⁺ > Ca²⁺ > Cd²⁺ > Ni²⁺ > Co²⁺ > Sr²⁺ > Ba²⁺

Operating pH Range

The resin can operate in a neutral, acidic, or alkaline medium. Recommended minimum pH values are:

  • Cations: Cu²⁺, Zn²⁺, Cd²⁺, Mg²⁺, Pb²⁺, Ca²⁺, Ni²⁺, Co²⁺
  • Minimum pH: 2, 2.5, 3, 4.5 (corresponding to the listed cations)

Applications

  • Brine Purification: Removal of Ca, Mg, and other metals from concentrated brine (e.g., chlor-alkali electrolysis).
  • Zinc Separation: Separation of zinc from various media.
  • Lead Separation: Separation of lead from industrial effluents.

Hydraulic Characteristics

Refer to the original datasheet for figures illustrating bed expansion as a function of backwash flow rate and temperature, and pressure drop in brine as a function of linear velocity and temperature.

Limits of Use

AMBERLITE IRC747 is suitable for industrial uses. For pharmaceutical, food processing, or potable water applications, consult Rohm and Haas.
