Summary
Product identification
AMBERLITE™ MB20 is an Industrial Grade, Regenerable Mixed Bed Resin. It is a fully regenerated, ready-to-use mixture of a strongly acidic cation exchanger and a strongly basic type 1 anion exchanger. It has been developed for the production of high purity water, including applications requiring demineralised water free of silica and carbon dioxide.
Properties
- Composition (volume):
- Cation component: 38 to 44 %
- Anion component: 56 to 62 %
- Ionic form as shipped: H⁺ / OH⁻
- Shipping weight: 715 g/L
- Particle size: Max 3 % <0.300 mm
Suggested Operating Conditions
- Maximum operating temperature: 60°C
- Minimum bed depth: 700 mm
- Service flow rate: 20 to 40 BV*/h
- Regenerants:
- Cation component: HCl or H₂SO₄
- Anion component: NaOH
* 1 BV (Bed Volume) = 1 m³ solution per m³ resin
Performance
Operating Capacity
The following formula provides an approximate determination of treated volume:
$$BV = \frac{500}{TDS}$$
Where:
- BV is the number of litres of water containing a TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) in meq/L that can be demineralised with one litre of resin.
- TDS is the Total Dissolved Solids in meq/L.
Treated Water Conductivity
- In polishing applications with a feed of less than 10 µS/cm, the resin should produce water with less than 0.1 µS/cm.
- With feed water having high conductivity (up to 500 µS/cm), the treated water conductivity should still be less than 1 µS/cm.
Limits of Use
AMBERLITE MB20 resin is suitable for general industrial uses. For specific applications such as pharmaceutical, food processing, or potable water, users should consult Rohm and Haas for guidance on resin selection and operating conditions.
