Summary

Product Identification

AMBERLITE™ PWA8 Resin is an anion exchange resin designed for the removal of uranium from drinking water. It can also remove other anionic contaminants after cation exchange.

Properties

  • Matrix: Cross linked copolymer
  • Physical form: Clear white beads
  • Total exchange capacity: ≥ 1.6 eq/L
  • Moisture holding capacity: 56 – 64%
  • Shipping weight: 700 kg/m³ (45 lb/ft³)
  • Particle size:
    • Screen grading: 0.3 – 1.2 mm (16 – 50 mesh US Std Screens)
    • Fines content (< 0.300 mm): 2% maximum

Suggested Operating Conditions

Contact your Rohm and Haas representative for system design and application testing details.

  • Maximum operating temperature: 35°C (140°F)
  • Minimum bed depth: 600 mm (24 inches)
  • Typical service flow rate: 8 to 40 BV/h* (1 – 5 gpm/ft³)

* 1 BV (Bed Volume) = 1 m³ solution per m³ resin

Regenerant (for demineralization)

  • Regenerants: NaOH, NH₄OH, Na₂CO₃
  • Concentration: 2 – 4%
  • Minimum level: 130% of ionic load
  • Minimum contact time: 30 minutes

Commissioning and Limits of Use

  • AMBERLITE PWA8 resin is suitable for potable water applications after an initial commissioning rinse of 20 BV (140 gal/ft³) of water at 25°C (75°F).
  • Operating capacity depends on operating and feed water conditions.

Regulatory

  • Approved for use in Germany for potable water applications. Contact your Rohm and Haas representative for additional certification information.
  • Resin products are manufactured in ISO 9001 certified facilities.

Hydraulic Characteristics

Pressure drop and bed expansion data are provided in graphical form (Figures 1-4 in the original document). These figures show pressure drop as a function of flow rate and temperature, and bed expansion as a function of backwash flow rate and temperature.
