Summary

Product identification

IMAC® HP1110 Na is a uniform particle size, gel type strong acid cation exchange resin. It is specially developed for potable water softening and food applications (i.e. decalcification of saccharose thin juice) using a process that does not employ chlorinated solvents.

Properties

  • Matrix: Styrene divinylbenzene copolymer
  • Functional groups: Sulphonates
  • Physical form: Uniform size, amber beads
  • Ionic form as shipped: Na⁺
  • Total exchange capacity: ≥ 2.2 eq/L (Na⁺ form)
  • Moisture holding capacity: 36 to 44 % (Na⁺ form)
  • Shipping weight: 820 g/L
  • Harmonic mean size: 540 to 650 µm
  • Uniformity coefficient: ≤ 1.3
  • Fines content: < 0.300 mm : 0.5 % max
  • Coarse beads: > 1.180 mm : 1.0 % max
  • Maximum reversible swelling: Na⁺ → H⁺ : 10 %
  • Chemical resistance: Insoluble in dilute solutions of acids or bases and common solvents

Suggested operating conditions (Water Treatment)

  • Maximum operating temperature: 120°C
  • Service flow rate: 5 to 50 BV*/h
  • Minimum contact time: 20 minutes
  • Slow rinse: 2 BV at regeneration flow rate
  • Fast rinse: 1 to 3 BV at service flow rate

*1 BV (Bed Volume) = 1 m³ solution per m³ resin

Regenerant options:

  • NaCl:
    • Level: 50 to 240 g/L
    • Concentration: 10 %
    • Flow rate: 2 to 8 BV/h
  • HCl:
    • Level: 40 to 120 g/L
    • Concentration: 4 to 10 %
    • Flow rate: 2 to 5 BV/h
  • H₂SO₄:
    • Level: 40 to 200 g/L
    • Concentration: 0.7 to 6 %
    • Flow rate: 2 to 20 BV/h

Hydraulic Characteristics (Water Treatment)

Figures are provided in the original document for:

  • Bed Expansion: As a function of backwash flow rate and water temperature.
  • Pressure Drop: As a function of service flow rate and water temperature.

Compliance

IMAC HP1110 Na is approved for the treatment of potable water in France, Austria, Poland, and the UK. It complies with Council of Europe Resolution AP(89)2, German Food Law, and FDA regulation 21 CFR 173.25 (a) after pre-treatment according to Rohm and Haas recommendations. It is also approved by the French DGCCRF as a sugar industry processing aid.

Quality Control

All IMAC HP resins are manufactured and purified for non-industrial applications. Each batch of IMAC HP1110 Na is analyzed for compliance with high purity specifications, including physical and chemical properties, individual and global release of substances (TOC), and total microbial count.

Commissioning

IMAC HP1110 Na is ready to use after a full regeneration cycle followed by a rinse with at least 20 bed volumes of water. This is valid if the resin is stored below 25°C, protected from UV radiation, and used within 24 months of the production date.
