PDF datasheet mirror for Series 4360 & 4380 (Armstrong Pumps). Verify with OEM before design.

Summary

Product identification

The Armstrong Series 4360 and 4380 are Close Coupled Vertical In-Line Pumps, described as single-stage, single-suction types with rising head to shut-off pump characteristics.

Operating limits

  • Hydrostatic Test Pressure: 150% maximum working pressure at ambient temperature.
  • Liquid Compatibility: All values are based on clear, clean water. Values may change with other liquids.
  • Pressure/Temperature Chart: The document includes pressure/temperature charts for various configurations:
    • Cast iron with NPT connections and standard seal (Series 4360b).
    • Cast iron with standard seal NPT connections (Series 4360d) or ANSI 125 flanges (Series 4380).
    • Ductile iron with standard seal ANSI 250 flanges (Series 4380 only).
    • See the official PDF for exact tabulated values.
  • Series 4360 Casing: Suitable for 175 psig (12 bar) working pressure at 140°F (60°C).
  • Series 4380 Casing:
    • Cast iron suitable for 175 psig (12 bar) working pressure at 140°F (60°C).
    • Ductile iron suitable for pressures to 250 psig (17 bar).
  • Seal Material Temperature Limits:
    • Resin bonded carbon is used, with antimony loaded carbon for liquids above 200°F (93°C).
    • Silicon carbide is used for glycols above 30% by weight.

Feed water

  • Values are based on clear, clean water.
  • For potable water supply, mechanical seals utilize Resin Bonded Carbon and EPDM l-cup mounted Silicon Carbide faces.

Electrical

  • Motor power requirements are the minimum acceptable and are sized for continuous operation without exceeding the full load nameplate rating over the entire pump curve, exclusive of service factor.
  • Available motor frames include 56c, jm, and jm/jp.

Mechanical / hydraulic

General Design Features (Series 4360 & 4380)

  • Industry standard face mounted motor.
  • Flush and vent connection removes entrained air and ensures liquid at seal face at all times.
  • Inside type mechanical seal with Silicon carbide seat, serviceable without breaking pipe connections.
  • Heavy cylindrical bracket with 360° register on both flanges provides a rigid union of pump and motor.
  • Dynamically balanced impeller assures smooth vibration-free operation.
  • Radially split casing with equal suction and discharge flange sizes.
  • Separate tapped openings for gauge, flush and drain connections.
  • Liberal inlet passageways and straightening vanes provide optimum suction performance and quiet operation.
  • Ribs cast integral with casing, with a machined surface to accept floor support when specified.
  • Confined casing gasket to meet stringent industrial temperature and pressure applications.

Series 4360 Specific Design Features

  • Easy to service: Radially split casing permits removal of the motor and pump rotating assembly without removing the pump casing from the line.
  • Easy removal of complete pump from the line when necessary, due to companion flanges supplied with the pump.
  • Equal suction and discharge connections result in simplified piping design and installation.
  • Fewer maintenance and servicing problems due to bearing-free pump design.

Typical Applications

  • Cooling and heating systems.
  • Pressure boosting systems.
  • Industrial applications requiring a compact pump.
  • OEM applications (Cooling tower, spray washer, fountain, etc.).

Pump Construction (Series 4360)

  • Pump Casing: Cast iron, radially split, provided with NPT threaded companion flanges, gaskets, and hardware. Hydrostatically tested to 150% maximum working pressure.
  • Pump Impeller: Fully enclosed type, keyed and secured to the pump shaft by stainless steel fittings.
  • Pump Shaft: Stainless steel stub shaft for frame 56 motors. Steel motor shaft enclosed by a bronze shaft sleeve on other motor frame sizes.
  • Mechanical Seal:
    • 4360b: Single spring inside type with resin bonded carbon and ceramic faces with Buna-N elastomer.
    • 4360d: Single spring inside type with Resin bonded carbon* and Silicon carbide faces, with stainless steel spring and hardware. (For potable water supply: Resin Bonded Carbon and EPDM l-cup mounted Silicon Carbide faces).
    • Includes a factory-installed seal vent line, piped from the seal area to the pump suction connection.

Pump Construction (Series 4380)

  • Pump Casing: Cast iron or ductile iron, radially split. Suction and discharge connections are the same size and include drilled and tapped seal vent and pressure gauge connections. Hydrostatically tested to 150% maximum working pressure.
  • Pump Impeller: Bronze, fully enclosed type, dynamically balanced.
  • Shaft Sleeve: Bronze, extending the full length of the mechanical seal area.
  • Mechanical Seal: Single spring inside type with Resin Bonded Carbon* and Silicon Carbide faces, with stainless steel spring and hardware. (For potable water supply: Resin Bonded Carbon and EPDM l-cup mounted Silicon Carbide faces).
  • Includes a factory-installed seal vent line, piped from the seal area to the pump suction connection.
