Summary

Product identification

The AUE, AUD, and AUED series are units designed for UNI-EN 12845 fire-fighting systems. They are constructed in accordance with UNI-EN 12845 standards for automatic fire-fighting systems (with sprinklers) and UNI 10779 for fire-fighting systems with fire hydrants.

Available configurations include:

  • AUE 11: Units with 1 N series electric main pump.
  • AUE 21: Units with 2 N series electric main pumps.
  • AUD 11: Units with 1 N series main pump (diesel motor).
  • AUED 21: Units with 2 N series main pumps (electric and diesel motors).

Application

These units are used for feeding water to automatic fire-fighting systems and systems with hydrants.

Construction

The units are composed of 1 or 2 main pumps and are always fitted with a jockey pump. All pumps are mounted on a steel base.

  • Main pumps: N series single-stage horizontal centrifugal pumps. They are coupled with electric or diesel motors via a bearing coupling, allowing hydraulic maintenance without moving the motor.
  • Jockey pump: Can be a self-priming jet pump, a centrifugal pump with two impellers, a vertical multistage pump, or a submersible borehole pump. The maximum pressure developed by the jockey pump is always greater than that of the main pumps.
  • Motors:
    • Electric: Two-pole induction type, 50 Hz, n = 2,900 rpm.
    • Diesel: Direct-injection pumps fitted with an electric control box, fuel tank, starter batteries, and silencer.

Operation

The pumps activate upon a fall in the pressure level within the fire-extinguishing system. The jockey pump is triggered first to restore and maintain system pressure without starting the main pumps. If the jockey pump cannot restore pressure, the main pump starts. In units with multiple main pumps, they start in a cascade sequence, with their starting pressure switches set at different pressure levels.

Main pump pressure switches are solely for starting. Stopping is manual for UNI-EN 12845 units or automatic via a timer for UNI 10779 sets. A recirculation diaphragm allows main pump operation even when the delivery port is closed (no water consumption), preventing water overheating inside the pump body.

A programmable clock in the electric box controls a forced weekly test start for electric-driven main pumps.

Electrical

  • Electric Motors:

    • Three-phase 230/400V ± 10% up to 3 kW.
    • 400/690V ± 10% for 4 kW and higher.
    • Insulation class F.
    • Protection IP 54 for close-coupled pumps, IP 55 for pumps with coupling.
    • Construction in accordance with IEC 60034.
    • Other voltage and frequency ratings are available on request.
  • Electric Main-Pump Box (Electric Motor):

    • Housed in a metal cabinet with IP54 protection.
    • Direct motor starting for power ratings up to 7.5 kW.
    • Y/Δ type starting with fuses, contactors, and timer for motors 11 kW and higher.
    • Includes a programmable clock for the weekly test and a timer for pump stop after 20 minutes (UNI 10779).
    • Internal door panel devices: Line-sectioning handle, Voltmeter and ammeter with switch, "Manual-0-Automatic" selector (key extractible only in "automatic" position), Start/Stop pushbuttons, Pilot lights (no-volt, pump running, voltage on).
  • Electric Main-Pump Box (Diesel Motor):

    • Cabinet contains electronic control devices for the diesel motor and battery chargers for starter accumulators.
    • Front panel devices: Line-sectioning handle, Front panel of the electronic unit, Manual-0-Automatic selector (key extractible only in "automatic" position).
  • Electric Jockey-Pump Box:

    • When installed, the jockey pump has its own electric panel in a metal housing with IP 54 protection.
  • Control Box (on request):

    • Provides acoustic and visual signals for any unit failure for 24 hours.
    • Requires 220V connection.

Mechanical / Hydraulic

All butterfly valves or ball valves are locked in their normal position with a lock and key.

  • Each main pump is fitted with:

    • Pressure and vacuum gauge in the suction section.
    • Butterfly valve in the suction section (on request, only for positive suction head installations).
    • Pressure gauge in the delivery section.
    • Adjusted diaphragm.
    • Pressure switch to indicate pump operation.
    • Accessible swing-type non-return valve.
    • Butterfly valve in the delivery section.
    • Manual test circuit (one for each pump) with pressure switches, pressure gauge, non-return valve, ball valve, and a cylindrical 20-liter (15 bar) tank.
  • The jockey pump is fitted with:

    • Ball valve in the suction section (on request, only if the pump has a positive suction head).
    • Non-return valve and ball valve in the delivery section.
    • Manual test circuit (one for each pump) with pressure switch, pressure gauge, non-return valve, ball valve, and a cylindrical 20-liter (15 bar) tank.
  • Other components:

    • Delivery manifold.
    • Coupling for connection of a priming tank (only for pumps installed with positive suction head).
    • The suction manifold is never supplied, as this execution is forbidden by standards.
  • On request:

    • Anti-vibration couplings in both the suction and delivery sections.
    • Manifold for flow meter.
    • Adjusted-flange, diaphragm type, flow meter.
    • Butterfly valve for capacity-check system.

Capacity

The document includes performance curves (flow rate vs. head) for AUE 11, AUE 21, AUD 11, and AUED 21 models, showing various flow rates in m³/h, l/min, U.S. g.p.m., and Imp. g.p.m., against head in meters and feet. It also provides tables for the characteristics of full-jet and sprinkler nozzles, detailing flow rates (l/min) and water-jet ranges (m) at different pressures (bar) and nozzle/orifice diameters (mm).

See the official PDF for exact tabulated values and performance curves.
