Summary

Product Identification

Danfoss PAHT high-pressure pumps are positive displacement, axial piston pumps. The product line includes PAHT 2-6.3, PAHT 10-12.5, PAHT 20-25, PAHT 50-90, and PAHT 256-308 models. PAHT G 2-308 and ATEX PAHT G pump variants are also mentioned.

General Features & Benefits

  • Zero risk of lubricant contamination: Oil lubricants are replaced with the pumped medium (water), eliminating contamination risk.
  • Low maintenance costs: Efficient design and all-stainless steel construction ensure long lifetime, with service intervals of up to 8,000 hours when Danfoss specifications are met. Service is designed to be easy and can be carried out on site.
  • Low energy costs: The highly efficient axial piston design provides low energy consumption.
  • Easy installation: Features a light and compact design, allows horizontal or vertical installation, requires no pulsation dampeners due to low-pressure pulsation, is suitable for both boosted inlet pressure and water supply from a tank, and needs no cooling circuits due to high mechanical efficiency.
  • Certified quality: Fulfills stringent hygiene requirements (VDI 6022, HACCP) and holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001 certificates. API certification is available on request.

Applications

Danfoss PAHT pumps are specifically designed for use with technical water such as:

  • Ultra-pure water that has undergone multiple reverse osmosis processes.
  • De-ionized water.
  • Demineralized water.

Application examples include:

  • High-pressure cleaning with ultra-pure water in manufacturing (e.g., flat-panel displays, electronics, automobile parts).
  • Adiabatic cooling systems.

Feed Water

  • Filtration: Proper filtration is crucial for performance, maintenance, and warranty. The main filter must have a filtration efficiency of 99.98% at 10 μm. Precision depth filter cartridges rated 10 μm abs. β10 ≥ 5,000 are strongly recommended. Bag filters or string-wound filter cartridges are not recommended.
  • Inlet Pressure: Pump inlet pressure must be maintained according to specifications in the technical data to eliminate the risk of cavitation and other pump damage.

Mechanical / Hydraulic

  • Flow: Typical flow curves at maximum pressure are available in Section 5 of the official PDF. The effective flow (Q eff) can be calculated using the equation: Q eff = Q (th) – [(Q (th) – Q (p max)) x (p / p max)].
  • Dimensions and Connections: Detailed dimensions and connection diagrams are available in Section 8 of the official PDF.
  • Installation: Pumps can be installed horizontally or vertically. Do not add any axial or radial loads to the pump shaft. Flexible hoses are recommended over metal pipes to minimize vibrations and noise. A non-return valve should be installed after the outlet to prevent pump backspin, and a pressure relief valve should be installed to prevent system damage.

Electrical

  • Motor Requirements: The required motor power (P) and torque (M) can be calculated using the following equations:
    • P = (n x V x p) / (600,000 x η)
    • M = (V x p) / (62.8 x η)
    • Where: P = Power (kW), M = Torque (Nm), η = Mechanical efficiency, p = Pressure (barg), n = Motor speed (rpm), V = Displacement (cm³/rev).
  • Mechanical Efficiency (η):
    • PAHT 2, 3.2, 4, 6.3: 0.8
    • PAHT 10, 12.5: 0.9
    • PAHT 20, 25, 32, 50, 63, 70, 80, 90: 0.95
    • PAHT 256, 308: 0.95
  • Typical motor sizes (kW for 50 Hz, hp for 60 Hz) and torque values (Nm, lbf-ft) are provided in the technical data tables for each pump series.

Service

Danfoss PAHT pumps are designed for long service-free operation, typically 8,000 hours between service when installed and operated according to Danfoss specifications. Poor filtration is identified as the number one cause of pump damage. Other factors affecting pump performance and lifetime include running the pump at speeds, media temperatures, or inlet/outlet pressures outside specifications. An inspection after 8,000 hours of operation is recommended, with replacement of worn parts like pistons and shaft seals as necessary.
