Summary

Product identification

The Flygt 4410 and 4420 Banana Blade Mixers are submersible mixers designed for highly energy-efficient mixing solutions across a wide range of applications. They feature a unique "banana blade" propeller design for maximum thrust with minimum power consumption and clog-free operation.

Applications

These mixers are suitable for various mixing applications, including:

  • Biological treatment tanks
  • Chemical flocculation
  • Sludge holding tanks
  • Water reservoirs
  • Equalization tanks
  • Ice prevention
  • pH stabilization tanks
  • Chlorination basins
  • Solids suspension
  • Bottom erosion prevention
  • Blending
  • Circulation
  • Destratification

Mechanical / hydraulic

The mixers are designed for flexibility in positioning and orientation to achieve optimal bulk flow and mixing efficiency.

Key Components:

  • Propeller: Thin-sectioned, double-curved blades with a unique design for maximum efficiency and clog-free operation, even in fibrous material.
  • Gearbox: Designed for over 100,000 hours of operation, in accordance with ISO and AGMA standards.
  • Seal Housing: Contains a barrier fluid that lubricates and cools the shaft seals.
  • Shaft Seals:
    • Inner shaft seals: Located between the stator and gearbox, and between the gearbox and seal housing.
    • Outer shaft seal: Mechanical shaft seal between the surrounding liquid and the seal housing.
    • Material: Equipped with corrosion-resistant Tungsten Carbide (WCCR) shaft seals as standard, offering superior sliding properties, mechanical strength, and resistance to handling damage. WCCR provides excellent corrosion resistance down to a pH of 2. Silicon Carbide (SiC) is also available.
  • Cable Entry: Features a compressible bushing and strain relief to prevent leakage into the motor.

Electrical

  • Motor: Squirrel cage induction motor.
  • Protection: Equipped with thermal overload protection.

Materials of Construction

The drive units (motor and gearbox) are constructed from grey cast iron.

Coatings:

  • Standard Coating: Cast iron parts are sandblasted, then dipped in a corrosion-preventive primer, followed by an Oxyranester top coating. This top coating offers high mechanical strength, impact resistance, and good chemical protection. It also has environmental advantages during manufacturing due to reduced solvent and volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.
  • Epoxy Coating: For applications with chloride levels exceeding 100 ppm, an alternative coating is available. This replaces the standard primer with a zinc-rich epoxy primer for increased anodic corrosion protection. The Oxyranester top coating is applied in three layers. When chloride levels exceed 500 ppm, these mixers should also be equipped with zinc anodes.

Installation

Flygt mixers are designed for quick and easy installation, often without costly modifications to existing tanks, leading to lower capital investment.

Installation Methods:

  • Single Guide Bar System: A frequently used solution that eliminates any risk of fatigue and provides a cost-efficient installation. The mixer can be easily raised and lowered for servicing.
  • Double Guide Bar System: A rigid design that allows for installation of multiple mixers at different depths.

Lifting Equipment:

  • Lifting Davit: Designed for convenient and safe lifting and handling of mixers, featuring CE marking for safety approval. One davit can be used for several mixers. Mixers can remain submerged without being suspended by the lifting wire.
