Summary

Product Identification

The Goulds 3296 EZMAG is a Chemical Process Pump designed for reliability, simplicity, and ease of maintenance. It is available in both Frame Mounted and Close Coupled (S Group Only) configurations.

Operating Limits

  • Capacities: to 700 gpm (160 m³/h)
  • Heads: to 620 ft (189 m)
  • Temperatures: to 535°F (280°C)
  • Pressures: to 275 PSIG
  • Containment Shell Burst Pressure: greater than 2,175 psi
  • High Temperature Applications: For fluids between 350°F and 535°F, special design considerations are incorporated, including a "High Temperature" bearing cartridge and Samarium Cobalt magnets.

Applications and Services

  • Services:
    • Nitric Acid
    • Heat Transfer Fluids
    • Methylene Chloride
    • Caustic
    • Butodiene
  • Applications:
    • Batch chemical process
    • Rail car or tank unloading
    • Specialty chemicals
  • Suitable for media with low Net Positive Suction Head available (NPSHa), high vapor pressures, or entrained air (with optional inducer).

Mechanical / Hydraulic Features

  • Design: Sealless, double-back pull-out, ANSI B73.1 dimensional standards, modular design concept with minimized "loose" components and high component interchangeability.
  • Impeller: Enclosed, positively keyed and locked to shaft, designed for minimum axial thrust.
  • Bearings:
    • Standard pure Silicon Carbide, highly abrasion-resistant with universal chemical resistance.
    • Bearing Cartridge design contains individual bearings in a single assembly, simplifying installation and replacement, and protecting pump internals in case of failure.
    • Optional Dryguard™ bearings feature a diamond-like carbon coating that reduces the coefficient of friction by over 70%, enabling safe operation during temporary dry run conditions. Dryguard™ is up to 2X harder than silicon carbide.
    • A high temperature cartridge is also available.
  • Containment Shell:
    • Deep-drawn single-piece design made from Hastelloy C for reliable corrosion resistance and high strength.
    • Features a vortex-breaking bead at the bottom to prevent erosion.
    • Drive and driven magnet clearances protect the containment shell.
  • Recirculation Circuit: A reliable flush circuit with patented geometry ensures bearings receive proper lubrication and heat from eddy current losses is carried away. Pressurized dual-path internal recirculation prevents vaporization of product in the circuit.
  • Magnets: Neodymium Iron is standard; optional Samarium Cobalt magnets are available for higher temperature applications, providing high torque capability.
  • Casing: Heavy Duty, ANSI dimensional, with a 1/8” corrosion allowance and optional tapped connections.
  • Bearing Frame: Cast Iron construction with standard flood oil lubrication; regreaseable bearings are optional.
  • Seals: A Labyrinth Oil Seal prevents premature bearing failure caused by lubricant contamination and loss of oil.
  • Drainage: Includes an adapter drain connection and an optional casing drain.
  • Options:
    • Inducer: An optional inducer can reduce the NPSHr by as much as 35-50%, allowing smaller pumps to operate at higher speeds.
    • Close Coupled Option: Available on S group sizes, eliminating the need for time-consuming pump and motor alignment.

Electrical / Monitoring

  • Condition Monitoring (Optional Features):
    • RTD or Thermocouple: Monitors containment shell temperature, providing basic pump protection by indicating system malfunctions such as dry-run conditions, plugged recirculation, flashing of pumpage, or decoupling of magnets.
    • Temperature Controller: Used to measure the signal from the containment shell temperature sensor, with an adjustable trip point to sound an alarm and/or stop the pump.
    • Power Monitoring (PS10 and PS20 Pump Load Monitors): These devices measure the motor input power in combination with a proprietary algorithm to accurately determine the pump’s power draw. They can be set to automatically shut down the pump or warn the operator when upset conditions occur, protecting the pump from damage.

Other Goulds Sealless Process Pumps

  • Model 3298/3299: Fluoropolymer-lined to handle severe corrosives, featuring non-metallic containment shells which eliminate eddy current losses.
  • Model SP3298: A self-priming dual volute pump designed for negative suction pressure applications where air or gases must be evacuated for priming. It primes on demand with only an initial charge of liquid in the casing.
  • Model V3298: An in-line design that requires minimal floor space and provides reduced installation costs, mounting directly in the line like a valve.

Hydraulic Coverage and Interchangeability

Hydraulic performance curves are provided for 3600/2900 RPM (60/50 Hz) and 1800/1450 RPM (60/50 Hz) for various pump sizes. An interchangeability chart for Frame-Mounted and Close Coupled Units is also included. See the official PDF for exact tabulated values and curves.
