Summary
Product identification
The Goulds 3420 is a Large Capacity Double Suction Pump, part of the Goulds 3400 series of centrifugal pumps.
Operating limits
- Capacities: to 65,000 GPM (14,762 m³/h)
- Heads: to 400 feet TDH (122 m)
- Temperatures: to 275˚F (135˚C)
- Working pressures: to 200 PSI (1379 kPa)
Mechanical / hydraulic
The Goulds 3420 pump is designed for heavy-duty industrial, municipal, and process services, featuring:
Standard Design Features (Goulds 3400 Series):
- Large inlet areas to reduce NPSH requirements and assure smooth, quiet flow.
- Stuffing box with packing as standard; a wide variety of mechanical seals (including cartridge and split type) are available.
- Positive liquid sealing of the shaft from pumpage between impeller and sleeves, and between sleeves and sleeve nuts.
- Renewable impeller wear rings, positively locked on impeller hubs, standard on large and extra-large capacity models (3420 & 3498).
- Double row thrust bearing for high axial thrust capability, positively positioning the rotating element.
- Labyrinth bearing protection, significantly reducing bearing contamination.
- Renewable casing wear rings to eliminate casing wear and maintain proper running clearances.
- Heavy duty shafts designed for minimum deflection, with renewable shaft sleeves available in various materials.
- Double suction impeller to minimize axial thrust, with polished waterways, fully machined exterior surfaces, and dynamic balancing.
- Heavy duty, rugged foot-mounted casings designed to resist external forces and vibration, 100% hydrostatically tested. Suction and discharge connections are in the lower half casing, allowing removal of the upper half casing without disturbing piping or driver.
- Balanced design with dual volute casing (standard on all 3420 sizes) combined with a double suction impeller for axial balance.
Model 3420 Specific Features:
- Sleeve bearings available.
- Grease or ring oil lubricated bearings.
- Packing or mechanical seals available (including cartridge and split type seals).
- Dual volute casings standard on all sizes.
- Labyrinth bearing protection standard.
- Alloy constructions not shown are also available.
- Shaft sleeve nuts threaded against rotation as standard.
- Vertical mounting available on some sizes.
- Impeller wear rings standard.
