Goulds Trash Hog® Self Priming Pumps

PDF datasheet mirror for Goulds Trash Hog® Self Priming Pumps (Goulds Pumps). Verify with OEM before design.

Summary

Product Identification

The Goulds Trash Hog® is a self-priming solids handling pump designed for superior solids handling capability, optimum pump performance, and ease of maintenance.

Applications include:

  • Pulp and Paper Industry: Black Liquor Sump, Paper Machine Floor Sump, Knotters Discharge Pump, White Water Service
  • General Industry: Wash Down Sump, Food Wastes, Fish Farming, Rendering Wastes, Machine Coolant Sump
  • Mining and Metal Fabrication: Mine Dewatering, Mill Scale Runoff, Cutting Oil Transfer, Construction Site Dewatering
  • Municipal wastewater services, raw sewage, sludge, debris, or plant wastes.

Operating Limits

  • Capacities: to 6,000 GPM (1,363 m³/h)
  • Heads: to 140 feet (43 m)
  • Temperatures: to 225°F (107°C)
  • Pressures: to 85 PSIG (586 kPa)
  • Suction Lifts: to 25 feet (7.6 m)
  • Spherical Solids: to 3 inches (76 mm)

Mechanical / Hydraulic

The Goulds Trash Hog is engineered for heavy-duty solids handling services, featuring:

  • Self-Priming Capability: Large capacity priming chamber for reliable priming and repriming. All Trash Hog sizes will prime up to 25 feet in under 5 minutes. An elevated suction inlet keeps liquid in the priming chamber even if the check valve fails.
  • Solids Handling: Non-clog impeller capable of passing spherical solids up to 3 inches (76 mm). Uses two-vane or three-vane impellers.
  • Maintenance Features:
    • External Impeller Adjustment: Easily renews optimum hydraulic performance by compensating for wear without disassembly or draining the pump.
    • Back Pull-Out Design: The complete power end with seal chamber can be easily removed from the casing without disturbing suction and discharge piping. No special tools or shims are required for clearance adjustments.
    • Lightweight Clean-Out Cover: Allows access to remove debris.
    • Renewable Wearplate: Provides added protection to the pump casing from abrasive wear and allows running clearances to be maintained.
    • Tapered shaft and woodruff key design for easy impeller removal.
  • Durability Features:
    • Heavy Duty Power End: Provides rigid shaft support and ample oil volume for cooler running bearings and extended life.
    • Heaviest shaft and bearing assembly in the industry, with a long bearing span and large shaft diameter for minimal deflection and maximum mechanical seal life.
    • Rigid cast iron frame foot for excellent support.
    • High Strength Stainless Steel Tapered Shaft for maximum strength and corrosion resistance.
    • Silicon Carbide Mechanical Seal (hard faces for higher wear resistance; Carbon/ceramic seal is optional).
    • Back Pump-Out Vanes and Rear Impeller Ring: Reduces seal chamber pressure and axial thrust, prevents solids from entering the seal chamber.
    • Class 125 Flanges: Standard on suction and discharge for positive sealing.
    • Replaceable Elastomeric Check Valve with integral blow-out disc.

Materials of Construction:

  • Casing: Cast Iron, 316SS, CD4MCu, Alloy 20, CH600
  • Impeller: Ductile Iron, 316SS, CD4MCu, Alloy 20, CH600
  • Wear Plate: Ductile Iron, 316SS, CD4MCu, Alloy 20, CH600
  • Shaft: 17-4PH, 416SS (Carbon steel shaft standard on 3x3-8 and 4x4-10 pumps for all iron construction.)
  • Mechanical Seal: Single Silicon Carbide (Viton/Silicon Carbide optional)
  • Gaskets: Lexide
  • O-rings: Buna N, Viton
  • Check Valve: Buna N, Viton
  • Other components (e.g., Bearing Carrier, Bearing Frame, Frame Foot, Clean-Out Cover, Suction Piece, Stuffing Box Cover, Inspection Cover): Primarily Cast Iron, with options for 316SS, CD4MCu, Alloy 20 depending on the part.
