Product identification
The product is a control unit identified as Megacontrol, manufactured by DP-Pumps. This manual is valid for Megacontrol version V1.7.1 and later.
Operating limits
- Maximum ambient temperature: 50 °C
- Relative atmospheric humidity: 20 - 90 % (no condensation)
- Intended use: Controlling a Hydro-Unit consisting of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 pumps within the indicated working range.
WSD-Sensor (option)
- Maximum ambient temperature: 30 °C
- Medium temperature: 5 - 30 °C
- Switching flow: ± 14 l/min
Electrical
- Voltage: 1 x 230 V AC ± 5%
- Frequency: 50/60 Hz
- RS485-termination:
- For 1-6 DANFOSS Micro-Drives: Megacontrol T+/T- clamps open; Microdrives bus termination switch to ON on each drive.
- For 1-2 DANFOSS AQUA Drives: Megacontrol T+/T- clamps open; AQUA Drive bus termination switch to ON on each drive.
- For 3-6 DANFOSS AQUA Drives: Megacontrol T+/T- clamps open; AQUA Drive bus termination only on the last drive; external active bus termination (e.g., 6ES7 972-0DA00-0AA0 or FBCon DP M12 Term 24V) placed near the Megacontrol.
- Contactors: When using contactors and/or auxiliary relays, always place a suitable RC filter or varistor across the coil (e.g., Siemens 3RT29-16-1CD00).
Features & Functionality
The Megacontrol is an intelligent control unit designed for pressurization systems with a maximum of 6 pumps. It senses the required system pressure via an outlet-side pressure sensor. Pumps are switched on when pressure drops below the set point and switched off one at a time when the required pressure is reached. The minimum run time is constantly optimized for energy saving.
- Pump Management:
- Determines pump activation/deactivation based on current operating hours, ensuring equal wear across all pumps, including backup.
- Includes an automatic test run procedure to prevent pumps from prolonged standstill.
- Programming & Interface:
- Programmable via a Human Machine Interface (HMI) operating panel or a service port (requires special service port cable Art. nr. 6147117698).
- HMI features a back-lit display, function keys (Operation, Diagnosis, Settings, Information), navigation keys, and LEDs (Red: Alert, Amber: Warning, Green: O.K.).
- Access levels: Standard, User (default password 7353), Service, and Factory. The system automatically returns to the default access level after ten minutes of inactivity.
- Optional Sensors:
- WSD-Sensor: Can generate a failure message if insufficient refreshment of the membrane switch vessel occurs, the membrane is defective, there is no air in the vessel, or the installation is incorrectly set/installed. Supports installations with a maximum of 3 membrane switch vessels.
- Temperature-sensor: Can generate temperature-dependent failure messages.
- Manual Operation: Allows manual operation of pumps for 10 seconds, after which the pump operation mode changes to Disabled (off) for protection.
- Fault Management: Provides functionality to retrieve and reset fault messages via the 'Diagnosis' hot key, including current and historical faults with date/time stamps.
Hydro-Unit Configurations
The Megacontrol supports various Hydro-Unit configurations, each with specific parameter settings:
- Hydro-Unit MC: For fixed speed systems, typically with a bandwidth of 30 and an optimal pump starts/hour of 10.
- Hydro-Unit MC++: Similar to MC but with a bandwidth of 50 and an optimal pump starts/hour of 30.
- Hydro-Unit MCJ: Features a jockey pump for installations with fluctuating water consumption. The jockey pump starts first, with main pumps engaging as needed.
- Hydro-Unit MCF: Equipped with one variable frequency drive (VFD) and an integrated PID-controller to maintain constant system pressure. Pumps switch on at 100% speed and off at 0% speed.
- Hydro-Unit MCMF: Equipped with multiple VFDs, utilizing an integrated PID-controller for constant system pressure. Supports various Danfoss VFD communication protocols.
- Hydro-Unit PumpDrive 2 Eco: Equipped with multiple VFDs (PumpDrive 2 communication) and an integrated PID-controller. Features detailed motor and VFD parameter settings, including nominal power, voltage, frequency, current, and RPM.
- Hydro-Unit Level control: Configurable for supply valve ON/OFF or proportional control based on water levels, with parameters for high, critical, low water levels, and thresholds. Threshold 1/2 contacts are available with MCIII 6 pumps version when using a maximum of 4 pumps.
Note: Specific parameter values for each Hydro-Unit configuration, including set points, bandwidths, run times, and VFD settings, are detailed in the official PDF.
Parameter Explanations
The manual provides explanations for various parameters, including:
- Pressure Settings Set Points: Defines set point, bandwidth, switch-off, and switch-on pressures for both fixed and variable speed systems.
- Delta P Correction: Formulas for calculating new set points based on the main set point, Delta P value, total number of pumps, and number of active pumps.
- Special Input/Output (I/O):
- Inputs: External off, Fire Alarm, Thermal Failure (TH.FAIL. P1-P6), WSD inputs (Input1-3), Run-Dry Protection (RDP), and TFR.
- Definable Inputs (WSD 1-3): When not used for WSD, these digital inputs can be configured for functions such as Check run, Alternate set point, Leakage detection, Remote Acknowledge, By-pass valve control, or External power operation (e.g., generator mode).
