- Hydrochloric Acid (HCl): 1000 mg/l
- Citric Acid: 1-2 %
- Clean-in-Place (CIP):
- Frequency: Current Process TMP(bar) ≥ Initial TMP(bar) + 0.9 bar
- Operation Duration: 2 hours
- Chemical Cleaning Solutions (depend on pollutant):
- 0.1 % NaOH + 0.2 % NaOCl
- 0.2 % HCl, 2 % Citric Acid
- Cleaning Flowrate per Module: 1-2 m³/h
Preservative Solution Cleaning
- Preservative solution is composed of water/glycerol/sodium metabisulfite.
- For cleaning, the module is drained with feed water for a minimum duration of 4 hours.
- The feed water specifications must be maintained, and the used feed water volume must be at least 14 m³.
Disinfection
- The module should be chemically disinfected against biological contamination.
- Circulate 100 ppm sodium hypochlorite solution for 10 minutes.
- Allow the solution to soak for 1 hour inside the module.
- After disinfection, drain the module until the filtrate line is free from chlorine.
Operation Guidelines
- In initial production, operate the permeate water and preservative solution at half capacity until completely drained.
- Do not operate the module above the pressure limits to avoid membrane deformation.
- To obtain designed production capacity and water quality, operation parameters must be maintained.
- The module must be filled with storage/preservative solution during shut-down.
- A backwash procedure with treated/clean water at start-up is advised.
- Valve positions and specifications must be maintained as per process steps.
- CEB frequency must be determined based on feed water quality.
- Chemical solutions for cleaning can be either filled directly into the module or circulated using a vessel and pump for up to 2 hours.
Process Steps
- Production: Includes Forward Flush (rinsing with feed water) and Filtration.
- Backwash: Involves Drain, Air Scourge (membranes scoured by air), Backwash-Bottom (rinsing with permeate water, top to bottom flow), and Backwash-Top (rinsing with permeate water).
- CEB (Caustic/Chlorine/Acid): Consists of Drain, Air Scourge, Backwash-Bottom (with permeate water and chemical, top to bottom flow), Backwash-Top (with permeate water and chemical), Soak (all valves closed, membranes soaked), Drain, Air Scourge, Backwash-Bottom, Backwash-Top, and finally Forward Flush (rinsing with feed water).
