Summary

Product identification

DOW™ XUS290908 and XUS290904 Nanofiltration Elements offer a unique combination of features:

  • Designed to treat highly viscous liquids and improve cleaning effectiveness.
  • Features a 48-mil feed spacer to reduce pressure drop across the pressure vessel.
  • Incorporates DOW HYPERSHELL™ Reverse Osmosis technology, a machined polypropylene rigid outer shell, which:
    • Minimizes channeling and prevents premature element failures.
    • Improves hydrodynamics, leading to energy savings and efficient Clean In Place (CIP).
    • Allows safer and faster loading/unloading due to the rigid case.
    • Provides easy and permanent identification via laser-etched model names and serial numbers.
  • Sanitary element design: All materials comply with U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulations for indirect contact with food.
  • Robust DOW FILMTEC™ NF245 membrane sheet designed to reject organics with a molecular weight above 300 amu while passing monovalent salts.

Important Start-Up Information

  • New elements are normally cleaned prior to initial use. If formulated cleaning agents are unavailable, an alkaline wash with a wetting agent is recommended.
  • Avoid abrupt pressure or cross-flow variations during start-up, shutdown, cleaning, or other sequences to prevent membrane damage.
  • Gradual Start-up Recommendations:
    • Feed pressure should be increased gradually over 30-60 seconds.
    • Before initiating cross-flow at high permeate flux conditions, maintain the set operating pressure for 5-10 minutes.
    • Achieve cross-flow velocity at the set operating point gradually over 15-20 seconds.
    • Avoid permeate-side backpressure at all times.
    • Discard any concentrate or permeate obtained from the first hour of operation.

General Information

  • Keep elements moist at all times after initial wetting.
  • To prevent biological growth during system shutdowns, immerse elements in a preservative solution.
  • These membranes may be subject to drinking water application restrictions in some countries; check application status before use and sale.
  • The use of this product does not necessarily guarantee the removal of cysts and pathogens from water; effective reduction depends on complete system design, operation, and maintenance.
