Summary

Product identification

The FilmTec™ Fortilife™ XC-N Element is a spiral-wound element featuring a polypiperazine thin-film composite membrane. It is designed to assist industrial users in challenging water scenarios such as wastewater reuse and Minimal Liquid Discharge (MLD) by reducing reverse osmosis (RO) concentrate waste and facilitating the production of high-purity, easier-to-crystallize salt solutions from RO concentrate.

Benefits of the FilmTec™ Fortilife™ XC-N Element include:

  • Selective and high monovalent ion passage coupled with high divalent ion and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) rejection, leading to high-purity salt solution in the permeate and reduced concentrate waste.
  • High permeability membrane chemistry enables increased water recovery and/or low energy operation.
  • Robust membrane construction and reliable long-term performance.

Typical Properties

  • Active Area: 365 ft² (34 m²)
  • Feed Spacer Thickness: 34 mil
  • Target Permeate Flow Rate: 8,375 GPD (31 m³/d)
  • Stabilized Salt Rejection: 99.0%
  • Minimum Salt Rejection: 98.0%

Permeate flow and salt rejection are based on standard test conditions: 2,000 ppm MgSO₄, 70 psi (0.48 MPa), 77°F (25°C), 15% recovery. Flow rates for individual elements may vary by no more than ± 20%. Active area is guaranteed ± 3%.

Operating limits

  • Maximum Operating Temperature: 113°F (45°C)
    • Note: Maximum temperature for continuous operation above pH 10 is 95°F (35°C).
  • Maximum Operating Pressure: 600 psig (41 bar)
  • Maximum Element Pressure Drop: 15 psig (1.0 bar)
  • pH Range:
    • Continuous Operation: 3 – 10
    • Short-Term Cleaning (30 min.): 1 – 12
  • Maximum Feed Silt Density Index (SDI): SDI 5
  • Free Chlorine Tolerance: < 0.1 ppm
