Summary
Product Identification
FilmTec™ LC 4040 product range reverse osmosis elements are designed for commercial applications, offering options for high purity water or low total system costs. These elements are manufactured using fully automated processes, ensuring consistent product quality.
The LC LE-4040 specifically delivers high quality water at low pressure, suitable for harsh water conditions and low energy applications, utilizing proprietary technology.
- Product Type: Spiral-wound element with polyamide thin-film composite membrane
Typical Properties
The following properties are for the LC LE-4040 element:
- Part Number: 356603 (Dry) / 356602 (Wet)
- Feed Spacer Thickness: 28 mil
- Permeate Flow Rate: 2500 gpd (9.5 m³/d)
- Minimum Salt Rejection: 99.0%
- Stabilized Salt Rejection: 99.2%
Note: Permeate flow and salt rejection are based on test conditions of 2000 ppm NaCl, 77°F (25°C), 15% recovery, pH 8, and an applied pressure of 125 psig for LC LE. Permeate flows for individual elements may vary ±15%.
For the LC HR-4040 model (not the primary focus of this datasheet, but included in the OEM document):
- Typical Solute Rejection (LC HR-4040):
- NH₄⁺: 98.8%
- NO₃⁻: 98.2%
- SiO₂: 99.8%
- Boron: 80.0%
Mechanical / Hydraulic
Element Dimensions
Dimensions for both LC HR-4040 and LC LE-4040 elements:
- A: 40.00 inches (1016 mm)
- B: 1.05 inches (26.7 mm)
- C: 0.75 inches (19 mm)
- D: 3.9 inches (99 mm)
These elements fit nominal 4-inch I.D. pressure vessels.
Operating Limits
- Membrane Type: Polyamide Thin-Film Composite
- Maximum Operating Temperature: 113°F (45°C)
- Note: Maximum temperature for continuous operation above pH 10 is 95°F (35°C).
- Maximum Operating Pressure: 600 psig (41 bar)
- Maximum Pressure Drop (per element): 15 psig (1.0 bar)
- Maximum Feed Flow Rate: 16 gpm (3.6 m³/h)
- pH Range:
- Continuous operation: 2 – 11
- Short-term cleaning: 1 – 13
- Maximum Feed Silt Density Index (SDI): 5
- Free Chlorine Concentration: < 0.1 ppm
- Note: The presence of free chlorine and other oxidizing agents can cause premature membrane failure. Pretreatment to remove residual oxidants is recommended as oxidation damage is not covered under warranty.
General Information
Proper start-up procedures are crucial for preparing membranes for service and preventing damage from overfeeding or hydraulic shock. This also helps ensure system operating parameters meet design specifications for water quality and productivity.
Before start-up, complete membrane pretreatment, element loading, instrument calibration, and other system checks.
Operation Guidelines
To prevent membrane damage, avoid abrupt pressure or cross-flow variations during start-up, shutdown, cleaning, or other sequences. A gradual change from standstill to operating state is recommended:
- Feed pressure: Increase gradually over a 30 – 60 second timeframe.
- Cross-flow velocity: Achieve at the set operating point gradually over 15 – 20 seconds.
Important Information
- Keep elements moist at all times after initial wetting.
- Failure to strictly follow operating limits and guidelines will void the product warranty.
- During prolonged system shutdowns, immerse membrane elements in a storage solution to prevent biological growth.
- Customers are fully responsible for the effects of incompatible chemicals and lubricants on elements.
- Maximum pressure drop across an entire pressure vessel (housing) is 50 psi (3.4 bar).
- Avoid static permeate-side backpressure at all times.
- The use of this product does not guarantee the removal of cysts and pathogens. Effective reduction depends on the complete system design, operation, and maintenance.
- Discard permeate obtained from the first hour of operation.
- This product may be subject to drinking water application restrictions in some countries; verify application status before use and sale.
