Summary
Product identification
The FilmTec™ XLE-440 Element is a spiral-wound element with a polyamide thin-film composite membrane. It is described as the lowest pressure FilmTec™ RO Element, ideal for applications requiring high-quality permeate at low operating costs with controlled pre-treatment.
Key features include:
- Lower energy costs and increased productivity, particularly in cold water applications.
- Minimizes equipment CAPEX through savings in elements and pumping, thanks to its 440 ft² active area.
- Offers effective cleaning performance, robustness, and durability due to a wide cleaning pH range (1-13).
Typical Properties
| FilmTec™ Element | Active Area (ft²) | Active Area (m²) | Feed Spacer Thickness (mil) | Permeate Flow Rate (GPD) | Permeate Flow Rate (m³/d) | Typical Stabilized Salt Rejection (%) | Minimum Salt Rejection (%) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| XLE-440 | 440 | 41 | 28 | 14,000 | 53 | 99.0 | 97.0 |
- Permeate flow and salt (NaCl) rejection are based on standard test conditions: 2,000 ppm NaCl, 125 psi (8.6 bar), 77°F (25°C), pH 8, 15% recovery.
- Flow rates for individual elements may vary but will be no more than +15%.
- Stabilized salt rejection is generally achieved within 24-48 hours of continuous use, depending on feedwater characteristics and operating conditions.
- Active area is guaranteed ±5%.
Operating limits
- Maximum Operating Temperature: 113°F (45°C)
- Maximum temperature for continuous operation above pH 10 is 95°F (35°C).
- Maximum Operating Pressure: 600 psig (41 bar)
- Maximum Element Pressure Drop: 15 psig (1.0 bar)
- pH Range Continuous Operation: 2 – 11
- pH Range Short-Term Cleaning (30 min.): 1 – 13
- Maximum Feed Silt Density Index (SDI): SDI 5
- Free Chlorine Tolerance: < 0.1 ppm
Feed water
- The membrane has a free chlorine tolerance of < 0.1 ppm. Pretreatment is recommended to remove residual free chlorine and other oxidizing agents to prevent premature membrane failure, as oxidation damage is not covered under warranty.
- Maximum Feed Silt Density Index (SDI): SDI 5.
Product water
- Typical stabilized salt rejection is 99.0%, with a minimum salt rejection of 97.0%, under standard test conditions.
- The use of this product does not inherently guarantee the removal of cysts and pathogens from water; effective reduction depends on the complete system design, operation, and maintenance.
- Permeate obtained from the first hour of operation should be discarded.
Mechanical / hydraulic
The element fits a nominal 8-inch (203-mm) I.D. pressure vessel.
Dimensions (inches / mm):
- A: 40.0 in (1,016 mm)
- B: 1.50 ID in (38 ID mm)
- C: 7.9 in (201 mm)
