Summary
Product identification
FilmTec™ NF270 Nanofiltration Elements are designed for commercial systems. They are effective at removing a high percentage of Total Organic Carbon (TOC) and Trihalomethane (THM) precursors. These elements allow for medium to high salt passage and medium hardness passage, making them suitable for surface water and groundwater applications where good organic removal and partial softening are desired.
The membrane type is Polyamide Thin-Film Composite.
Product specifications
Permeate flow and salt rejection are based on test conditions of 2,000 ppm MgSO₄, 77°F (25°C), and 15% recovery at the applied pressure specified.
Permeate flows for individual elements may vary: NF270-2540 by -20% / +30%, and NF270-4040 by -15% / +50%.
| Product | Part Number | Active Area ft² (m²) | Applied Pressure psig (bar) | Permeate Flow Rate gpd (m³/d) | Stabilized Salt Rejection (%) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| NF270-2540 | 149986 | 28 (2.6) | 70 (4.8) | 850 (3.2) | >97.0 |
| NF270-4040 | 149987 | 82 (7.6) | 70 (4.8) | 2,500 (9.5) | >97.0 |
Operating limits
- Maximum Operating Temperature: 113°F (45°C)
- Maximum temperature for continuous operation above pH 10 is 95°F (35°C).
- Maximum Operating Pressure: 600 psi (41 bar)
- Maximum Feed Flow Rate:
- 4040 elements: 16 gpm (3.6 m³/hr)
- 2540 elements: 6 gpm (1.4 m³/hr)
- Maximum Pressure Drop (per element):
- tape wrapped: 13 psig (0.9 bar)
- fiberglassed: 15 psig (1.0 bar)
- pH Range:
- Continuous Operation: 2 - 11
- Short-Term Cleaning (30 min.): 1 - 12
- Maximum Feed Silt Density Index (SDI): 5
- Free Chlorine Tolerance: < 0.1 ppm
- Under certain conditions, the presence of free chlorine and other oxidizing agents will cause premature membrane failure. Oxidation damage is not covered under warranty; pretreatment to remove residual free chlorine is recommended.
Mechanical / hydraulic
Element dimensions are provided for reference (1 inch = 25.4 mm):
| Product | A (mm) | B (mm) | C (mm) | D (mm) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| NF270-2540 | 40.0 (1,016) | 1.19 (30) | 0.75 (19) | 2.4 (61) |
| NF270-4040 | 40.0 (1,016) | 1.05 (27) | 0.75 (19) | 3.9 (99) |
- NF270-2540 elements have a tape outer wrap.
- NF270-4040 elements have a fiberglass outer wrap.
- Maximum pressure drop across an entire pressure vessel (housing) is 30 psi (2.1 bar).
Operation Guidelines
- Start-up: Avoid abrupt pressure or cross-flow variations. Increase feed pressure gradually over 30-60 seconds and achieve cross-flow velocity gradually over 15-20 seconds.
- Keep elements moist at all times after initial wetting.
- To prevent biological growth during prolonged system shutdowns, immerse elements in a preservative solution.
- The customer is responsible for the effects of incompatible chemicals and lubricants on elements.
- Avoid static permeate-side backpressure at all times.
- Discard permeate obtained from the first hour of operation.
- The use of this product does not inherently guarantee the removal of cysts and pathogens. Effective reduction depends on the complete system design, operation, and maintenance.
