Summary
Product identification
FILMTEC™ XLE-4040, LP-4040, and TW30-4040 are tape-wrapped 4040-size elements designed for commercial reverse osmosis applications. They are built with high-quality membranes and materials of construction, similar to industrial elements, but without a hard outer shell, making them more economical for commercial systems with one or two elements per housing.
- FILMTEC™ XLE-4040: The most productive, lowest pressure RO membrane available, delivering the lowest total system cost.
- FILMTEC™ LP-4040: Delivers high quality water at low pressure operation, suitable for replacing many "first generation" low pressure membrane elements, especially on cold water feeds.
- FILMTEC™ TW30-4040: The industry standard for reliable operation and production of the highest quality water.

- Elements fit nominal 4-inch I.D. pressure vessels.
- A coupler (part number 89055) is available for use in multiple element housings, including two 2-210 EPR o-rings (part number 89255).
Operating limits
- Membrane Type: Polyamide Thin-Film Composite
- Maximum Operating Temperature: 113°F (45°C)
- Maximum Operating Pressure: 600 psig (41 bar)
- Maximum Feed Flow Rate: 14 gpm (3.2 m³/hr)
- Maximum Pressure Drop: 13 psig (0.9 bar)
- pH Range, Continuous Operation: 2 - 11 (Maximum temperature for continuous operation above pH 10 is 95°F (35°C))
- pH Range, Short-Term Cleaning (30 min.): 1 - 13
- Maximum Feed Silt Density Index (SDI): SDI 5
- Free Chlorine Tolerance: <0.1 ppm (Presence of free chlorine and other oxidizing agents can cause premature membrane failure; removal by pretreatment is recommended as oxidation damage is not covered under warranty.)
Important information
- Proper start-up procedures are essential to prepare membranes for service and prevent damage from overfeeding or hydraulic shock.
- Membrane pretreatment, element loading, instrument calibration, and other system checks should be completed before start-up.
- Avoid abrupt pressure or cross-flow variations during start-up, shutdown, or cleaning.
- During start-up, increase feed pressure gradually over 30-60 seconds and achieve cross-flow velocity gradually over 15-20 seconds.
- Discard permeate from the first hour of operation.
- Elements must be kept moist at all times after initial wetting.
- Failure to follow operating limits and guidelines will void the limited warranty.
- During prolonged system shutdowns, immerse elements in a preservative solution to prevent biological growth.
- The customer is responsible for the effects of incompatible chemicals and lubricants on elements.
- Maximum pressure drop across an entire pressure vessel (housing) is 30 psi (2.1 bar).
- Avoid static permeate-side backpressure at all times.
Regulatory note
These membranes may be subject to drinking water application restrictions in some countries. Check the application status before use and sale. The use of this product does not necessarily guarantee the removal of cysts and pathogens; effective reduction depends on complete system design, operation, and maintenance.
