Summary

Product identification

The DOW FILMTEC™ SEAMAXX™ Elements are premium seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) elements, also suitable for brackish water with relatively high salinity. They are spiral-wound elements with a polyamide thin-film composite membrane and feature iLEC™ Interlocking Endcaps.

Key features include:

  • 28-mil feed spacer for low differential pressure, low cleaning frequency, and high cleaning efficiency.
  • iLEC™ Interlocking Endcaps to reduce system operating costs and the risk of O-ring leaks.
  • Oxidative-free membrane manufacturing process for high membrane robustness and long-term stable performance.
  • Widest pH range for cleanings (pH 1 – 13).
  • Automated, precision fabrication with a greater number of shorter membrane leaves to reduce fouling and maximize element efficiency.

Operating limits

  • Maximum Operating Pressure:
    • 1,000 psig (69 bar) at T < 35ºC
    • 900 psig (62 bar) at T = 35 – 45ºC
  • Maximum Element Pressure Drop: 15 psig (1.0 bar)
  • pH Range, Continuous Operation: 2 – 11 (Maximum temperature for continuous operation above pH 10 is 35ºC)
  • pH Range, Short-Term Cleaning (30 min.): 1 – 13
  • Maximum Feed Silt Density Index (SDI): SDI 5
  • Free Chlorine Tolerance: < 0.1 ppm

Feed water

Standard test conditions specify 32,000 ppm NaCl and 5 ppm boron for rejection performance evaluation. It is recommended to remove residual free chlorine by pretreatment prior to membrane exposure.

Product water

The permeate obtained from the first hour of operation should be discarded.

Product Specifications of Standard Test (performed at 600 psi / 4.1 MPa, 32,000 ppm NaCl, 77°F / 25°C, pH 8, 8% recovery):

  • Permeate Flow Rate: 9,050 GPD (34.2 m³/d)
  • Stabilized Boron Rejection: 81.8%
  • Stabilized Salt Rejection: 99.47%
  • Minimum Salt Rejection: 99.25%

Expected Performance at Common Standard Test Conditions (normalized to 800 psi / 5.5 MPa, 32,000 ppm NaCl, 77°F / 25°C, pH 8, 8% recovery):

  • Permeate Flow Rate: 17,000 GPD (64.4 m³/d)
  • Stabilized Boron Rejection: 89%
  • Stabilized Salt Rejection: 99.70%
  • Minimum Salt Rejection: 99.58%

Mechanical / hydraulic

  • Active Area: 440 ft² (41 m²)
  • Feed Spacer Thickness: 28 mil
  • Element Dimensions:
    • A (Net Length): 40.0 in. (1,016 mm)
    • B (Individual Element Length): 40.5 in. (1,029 mm)
    • C (Diameter): 7.9 in. (201 mm)
