Summary

Product identification

The FilmTec™ SG30LE-440i is an 8-inch Semiconductor Grade Reverse Osmosis Element designed for ultrapure water (UPW) systems. It features high overall rejection, improved rejection of lower molecular weight organic compounds and silica, and an accelerated TOC rinse down profile. This element is primarily intended for polishing use in newer UPW equipment, offering benefits such as lower capital cost and reduced energy consumption.

The product incorporates iLEC™ interlocking endcaps, which help reduce system operating costs, minimize the risk of O-ring leaks, prevent the generation of small particles that could degrade water quality, and eliminate the need for lubricants.

  • Part Number: 272573
  • Active Area: 440 ft² (41 m²)
  • Membrane Type: Polyamide Thin-Film Composite

Operating limits

  • Maximum Operating Temperature: 113ºF (45ºC)
    • Maximum temperature for continuous operation above pH 10 is 95ºF (35ºC).
  • Maximum Sanitization Temperature (@ 25 psig): 185ºF (85ºC)
  • Maximum Operating Pressure: 600 psig (41 bar)
  • Maximum Element Pressure Drop: 15 psig (1.0 bar)
  • pH Range (Continuous Operation): 2 – 11
  • pH Range (Short-Term Cleaning): 1 – 13
  • Maximum Feed Silt Density Index (SDI): SDI 5
  • Free Chlorine Tolerance: < 0.1 ppm (Under certain conditions, free chlorine and other oxidizing agents can cause premature membrane failure. Oxidation damage is not covered under warranty; residual free chlorine should be removed by pretreatment.)
  • Maximum pressure drop across an entire pressure vessel (housing): 50 psi (0.34 MPa)

Product water

  • Permeate Flow Rate: 10,000 gpd (38 m³/d)
    • Conditions for stated flow rate: 107 psi (0.74 MPa), 77°F (25°C), and 15% recovery.
    • Flow rates for individual elements may vary but will not be more than 15% below the value shown.
  • Typical stabilized salt rejection (Cl⁻): 99.5%
    • Conditions for stated rejection: 2,000 ppm NaCl, 150 psi (1.03 MPa), 77°F (25°C), pH 8, and 15% recovery.
    • At lower Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) (<5 ppm), ion rejections are decreased depending on ionic strength, pH, and ionic species.

Typical Organic Compound Rejection (SG30LE-440i)

Test conditions: Feed concentration 10 ppm, 107 psi (0.74 MPa), 25°C, pH 7, and 15% recovery.

  • Methanol (MW 32): 13%
  • Ethanol (MW 46): 40%
  • Acetone (MW 58): 48%
  • Isopropanol (MW 60): 92%

Mechanical / hydraulic

  • Maximum Feed Flow Rate: 85 gpm (19 m³/h)
  • Typical Recovery Rate: 15% (for a single element)
  • Element Dimensions (Inches (mm)):
    • A: 40.0 (1,016)
    • B: 40.5 (1,029)
    • C: 7.9 (201)
    • D (Permeate Tube ID): 1.125 (29)
  • Elements fit nominal 8.0-inch (203 mm) I.D. pressure vessels.
  • The SG30LE-440i now has an industry standard 1.125-inch I.D. permeate tube. It can be connected in series with the older SG30LE-430 (1.5-inch I.D. tube) using interconnector part number 196309.

Important Operating Information

  • Elements must be kept moist at all times after initial wetting.
  • To prevent biological growth during prolonged system shutdowns, elements should be immersed in a preservative solution.
  • Customers are fully responsible for the effects of incompatible chemicals and lubricants on elements.
  • Avoid static permeate-side backpressure at all times.
  • Proper start-up procedures are essential to prepare membranes for service and prevent damage from overfeeding or hydraulic shock. Refer to application literature for start-up sequences.
  • Any concentrate or permeate obtained from the first hour of operation should be discarded.
  • The use of this product in and of itself does not necessarily guarantee the removal of cysts and pathogens from water; effective removal depends on complete system design, operation, and maintenance.
