Summary

Product identification

FilmTec™ SW30 Membrane Elements are seawater reverse osmosis elements for marine systems, designed to offer high productivity and excellent salt rejection. They provide high flow rates and can be operated at lower pressure.

  • Product Name: FilmTec™ SW30-2521
  • Part Number: 80734
  • Membrane Type: Polyamide Thin-Film Composite

Product water

  • Permeate Flow Rate: 300 gpd (1.1 m³/d)
    • Note: Permeate flows for individual elements may vary +/-20%.
  • Stabilized Salt Rejection: 99.4%

Test conditions for the above values:

  • NaCl Concentration: 32,000 ppm
  • Applied Pressure: 800 psig (55 bar)
  • Temperature: 77°F (25°C)
  • Recovery Rate (for SW30-2521): 5%

Mechanical / hydraulic

  • Maximum Feed Flow Rate: 6 gpm (1.4 m³/h)
  • Element Dimensions (inches / mm):
    • A: 21.0 (533)
    • B: 1.19 (30.2)
    • C: 0.75 (19)
    • D: 2.4 (61)
  • Pressure Vessel Fit: Fits nominal 2.5-inch I.D. pressure vessels.

Operating limits

  • Maximum Operating Temperature: 113°F (45°C)
  • Maximum Operating Pressure: 1,000 psi (69 bar)
  • Maximum Pressure Drop (per element): 15 psig (1.0 bar)
  • Maximum Pressure Drop (across entire pressure vessel): 50 psi (3.4 bar)
  • pH Range (Continuous Operation): 2 - 11
    • Note: Maximum temperature for continuous operation above pH 10 is 95°F (35°C).
  • pH Range (Short-Term Cleaning): 1 - 13
  • Maximum Feed Silt Density Index (SDI): 5
  • Free Chlorine Tolerance: <0.1 ppm
    • Note: The presence of free chlorine and other oxidizing agents will cause premature membrane failure. Pretreatment to remove residual free chlorine is recommended.

General Information and Guidelines

  • Start-up:
    • Avoid abrupt pressure or cross-flow variations.
    • Feed pressure should be increased gradually over a 30-60 second timeframe.
    • Cross-flow velocity at set operating point should be achieved gradually over 15-20 seconds.
  • Keep elements moist at all times after initial wetting.
  • For prolonged system shutdowns, immerse membrane elements in a preservative solution to prevent biological growth.
  • Avoid static permeate-side backpressure at all times.
  • Permeate obtained from the first hour of operation should be discarded.
  • The use of this product does not guarantee the removal of cysts and pathogens from water; effective reduction depends on complete system design, operation, and maintenance.
