Summary
Product identification
FilmTec™Seawater Reverse Osmosis Elements offer high productivity while maintaining excellent salt rejection. FilmTec™SW30 Membrane Elements provide high flow rates for both sea-based and land-based desalinators and can operate at lower pressures to reduce pump size, cost, and operating expenses. Improved seawater membrane and automated, precision element fabrication ensure consistent product performance.
This document specifically references the FilmTec™SW30-2540 membrane element.

- pH Range - Short-Term Cleaning: 1 - 13
- Maximum Feed Silt Density Index (SDI): 5
- Free Chlorine Tolerance: <0.1 ppm (Presence of free chlorine and other oxidizing agents can cause premature membrane failure; removal by pretreatment is recommended.)
Operation Guidelines
- Avoid abrupt pressure or cross-flow variations during start-up, shutdown, or cleaning to prevent membrane damage.
- During start-up, increase feed pressure gradually over 30-60 seconds.
- Achieve cross-flow velocity at the set operating point gradually over 15-20 seconds.
- Maximum pressure drop across an entire pressure vessel (housing) is 50 psi (3.4 bar).
- Avoid static permeate-side backpressure at all times.
General Information
- Keep elements moist at all times after initial wetting.
- Failure to strictly follow operating limits and guidelines may void the limited warranty.
- During prolonged system shutdowns, it is recommended to immerse membrane elements in a preservative solution to prevent biological growth.
- The customer is fully responsible for the effects of incompatible chemicals and lubricants on elements.
- Proper start-up of RO systems is essential to prepare membranes for service and prevent damage. Refer to the application information literature entitled "Start-Up Sequence" (Form No. 45-D01609-en) for more information.
- The use of this product does not necessarily guarantee the removal of cysts and pathogens from water; effective reduction depends on complete system design, operation, and maintenance.
- Permeate obtained from the first hour of operation should be discarded.
