Summary

Product Identification

The FILMTEC™ SW30-380 is a high productivity seawater reverse osmosis element. It offers low energy consumption for two-pass seawater desalination systems and is also suitable for high salinity brackish water applications.

  • Part Number: 113853
  • Membrane Type: Polyamide Thin-Film Composite

Features:

  • High flow and high rejection membrane helps reduce energy costs in the first pass of two-pass seawater systems.
  • Offers superior economics for desalinating cold water feeds (< 20ºC).
  • Delivers high performance without the use of oxidative treatments, contributing to durability and effective cleaning over a wider pH range (1 - 13).

Product Specifications

  • Active Area: 380 ft² (35 m²)
  • Applied Pressure: 800 psig (55 bar)
  • Permeate Flow Rate: 9,000 gpd (34 m³/d)
  • Stabilized Salt Rejection: 99.4%
    • Minimum salt rejection is 98.8%.
  • Test Conditions: Permeate flow and salt rejection are based on 32,000 mg/L NaCl, applied pressure as specified above, 77°F (25°C), and 10% recovery.
  • Individual Element Flow Variation: Permeate flows for individual elements may vary -15% to +25%.

Mechanical / Hydraulic

Dimensions:

  • A (Length): 40.0 inches (1,016 mm)
  • B (Coupler Dia.): 1.125 inches (29 mm)
  • C (Element Dia.): 7.9 inches (201 mm)
  • The SW30-380 fits nominal 8.00-inch (203 mm) I.D. pressure vessels.
  • A coupler (part number 129768) is supplied with each element, including two 3-912 EPR o-rings (part number 151705).

Operating Limits

  • Maximum Operating Temperature: 113°F (45°C)
  • Maximum Operating Pressure: 1,000 psig (69 bar)
  • Maximum Pressure Drop (per element): 15 psig (1.0 bar)
  • pH Range, Continuous Operation: 2 - 11 (Maximum temperature for continuous operation above pH 10 is 95°F (35°C)).
  • pH Range, Short-Term Cleaning (30 min.): 1 - 13
  • Maximum Feed Silt Density Index (SDI): 5
  • Free Chlorine Tolerance: < 0.1 ppm (The presence of free chlorine and other oxidizing agents can cause premature membrane failure; removal of residual free chlorine by pretreatment is recommended).

Operation Guidelines

  • Avoid any abrupt pressure or cross-flow variations during start-up, shutdown, cleaning, or other sequences.
  • Start-up Recommendation:
    • Feed pressure should be increased gradually over a 30-60 second timeframe.
    • Cross-flow velocity at the set operating point should be achieved gradually over 15-20 seconds.
    • Permeate obtained from the first hour of operation should be discarded.

General Information

  • Keep elements moist at all times after initial wetting.
  • For prolonged system shutdowns, immerse membrane elements in a preservative solution to prevent biological growth.
  • The customer is responsible for the effects of incompatible chemicals and lubricants on elements.
  • Maximum pressure drop across an entire pressure vessel (housing) is 50 psi (3.4 bar).
  • Avoid permeate-side backpressure at all times.
  • The use of this product does not necessarily guarantee the removal of cysts and pathogens from water; effective reduction depends on the complete system design, operation, and maintenance.
