Summary
Product identification
FilmTec™ Seawater RO Elements are polyamide thin-film composite reverse osmosis elements designed for marine systems. These SW30 membrane elements offer high productivity and excellent salt rejection for both sea-based and land-based desalinators, and can be operated at lower pressures to reduce costs.
This summary specifically covers the SW30-4021 product, Part Number 80740.
Typical Properties (SW30-4021)
- Applied Pressure: 800 psig (55 bar)
- Permeate Flow Rate: 800 gpd (3.0 m³/d)
- Stabilized Salt Rejection: 99.4%
Test conditions for these properties were: 32,000 ppm NaCl, 77°F (25°C), and 5% recovery. Permeate flows for individual elements may vary +/-20%.

- Maximum Operating Temperature: 113°F (45°C)
- Maximum temperature for continuous operation above pH 10 is 95°F (35°C).
- pH Range:
- Continuous Operation: 2 - 11
- Short-Term Cleaning: 1 - 13
- Maximum Feed Silt Density Index (SDI): 5
- Free Chlorine Tolerance: <0.1 ppm
Operation Guidelines
- Start-up:
- Avoid abrupt pressure or cross-flow variations.
- Feed pressure should be increased gradually over 30-60 seconds.
- Cross-flow velocity should be achieved gradually over 15-20 seconds.
- Keep elements moist at all times after initial wetting.
- For prolonged system shutdowns, elements should be immersed in a preservative solution.
- Avoid static permeate-side backpressure at all times.
- The permeate obtained from the first hour of operation should be discarded.
- The use of this product does not necessarily guarantee the removal of cysts and pathogens; effective reduction depends on complete system design, operation, and maintenance.
