Summary

Product identification

The DOW™ FILMTEC™ SW30ULE-440i is a seawater reverse osmosis element featuring iLEC™ Interlocking Endcaps. It is designed for low to medium salinity and temperature waters, permeate staged systems requiring stringent water quality, and high feed salinity brackish water applications. It offers a high sustainable flow rate, coupled with high rejection of NaCl and boron.

Key Features and Benefits:

  • Highest seawater element flow rate in the industry, coupled with high rejection, for ultra-low energy consumption.
  • Highest guaranteed active area of 440 ft² (41 m²) maximizes productivity and enables accurate system design.
  • Combination of high active area and wide feed spacer (28 mil) allows low cleaning frequency and high cleaning efficiency.
  • Utilizes iLEC™ interlocking endcaps to reduce system operating costs and the risk of o-ring leaks.
  • Sustainable high performance over the operating lifetime, due to absence of oxidative treatments in membrane production, allowing effective cleaning over a wider pH range (1-13).
  • Can be effectively used in permeate staged seawater desalination systems without impairing downstream performance.
  • Automated, precision fabrication with a greater number of shorter membrane leaves reduces overall fouling and maximizes element efficiency.
  • Membrane Type: Polyamide Thin-Film Composite

Operating limits

  • Maximum Operating Temperature: 113°F (45°C)
  • Maximum Element Pressure Drop: 13 psig (0.9 bar)
  • pH Range, Continuous Operation: 2 – 11
    • Maximum temperature for continuous operation above pH 10 is 95°F (35°C).
  • pH Range, Short-Term Cleaning (30 min.): 1 – 13
  • Maximum Feed Silt Density Index (SDI): SDI 5
  • Free Chlorine Tolerance: <0.1 ppm
  • Maximum pressure drop across an entire pressure vessel (housing): 50 psi (3.4 bar)

Operation Guidelines

  • Avoid abrupt pressure or cross-flow variations during start-up, shutdown, or cleaning to prevent membrane damage.
  • During start-up, gradually increase feed pressure over 30-60 seconds and achieve cross-flow velocity over 15-20 seconds.
  • Discard permeate obtained from the first hour of operation.
  • Keep elements moist at all times after initial wetting.
  • To prevent biological growth during prolonged system shutdowns, immerse membrane elements in a preservative solution.
  • Avoid static permeate-side backpressure at all times.

General Information

  • The customer is fully responsible for the effects of incompatible chemicals and lubricants on elements.
  • Wear protective eye shields, gloves, and sleeves to avoid prolonged contact with eyes, skin, and clothing.
