Summary

Product identification

FilmTec™ Reverse Osmosis (RO) Elements are designed to provide high-quality water for small commercial systems, purifying less than one gallon per minute (0.2 m³/d) of RO water. These membranes are available in various sizes to suit different space requirements.

Key features include:

  • FilmTec™ XLE extra low energy elements operate at reduced pressure, contributing to lower energy costs and allowing for the use of lower-cost system components.
  • Delivers long-lasting and reliable performance.

Note 1: Permeate flow and salt rejection are based on specific test conditions:

  • TW30 elements: 2,000 ppm NaCl feed stream, pressure specified above, 77°F (25°C), and recovery rates (TW30-2026 – 10%; TW30-2521, XLE-2521, TW30-4021, XLE-4021 – 8%; TW30-2514, TW30-4014 – 5%).
  • XLE performance: 500 ppm NaCl feed stream, pressure specified above, 77°F (25°C), and recovery rates as above. Note 2: Permeate flows for individual elements may vary +/-20%.

Operating limits

  • Membrane Type: Polyamide Thin-Film Composite
  • Maximum Operating Temperature: 113°F (45°C)
    • Maximum temperature for continuous operation above pH 10 is 95°F (35°C).
  • Maximum Operating Pressure: 600 psig (41 bar)
  • Maximum Pressure Drop: 13 psig (0.9 bar)
  • pH Range:
    • Continuous Operation: 2 - 11
    • Short-Term Cleaning (30 min.): 1 - 13
  • Maximum Feed Silt Density Index (SDI): 5
  • Free Chlorine Tolerance: <0.1 ppm
    • Note: Presence of free chlorine and other oxidizing agents can cause premature membrane failure. Oxidation damage is not covered under warranty. Pretreatment to remove residual free chlorine is recommended.

General Information

  • Proper start-up of RO systems is essential to prevent membrane damage.
  • Avoid abrupt pressure or cross-flow variations during start-up, shutdown, or cleaning.
  • Gradual changes during start-up are recommended:
    • Feed pressure increased gradually over 30-60 seconds.
    • Cross-flow velocity achieved gradually over 15-20 seconds.
  • Keep elements moist at all times after initial wetting.
  • Operating limits and guidelines must be strictly followed to maintain warranty.
  • For prolonged system shutdowns, immerse membrane elements in a preservative solution to prevent biological growth.
  • Customers are responsible for the effects of incompatible chemicals and lubricants.
  • Avoid static permeate-side backpressure at all times.
  • The use of this product does not inherently guarantee the removal of cysts and pathogens; effective reduction depends on complete system design, operation, and maintenance.
  • Permeate obtained from the first hour of operation should be discarded.
