Summary

Product Identification

FilmTec™ Reverse Osmosis (RO) Elements are designed for small commercial systems purifying less than one gallon per minute (0.2 m³/d) of RO water. These elements are available in various sizes to meet space requirements and aim to provide high-quality water, long-lasting performance, and reliability. FilmTec™ XLE extra low energy elements operate at lower pressures to reduce energy costs.

The specific product identified is the FilmTec™ TW30-2514 membrane element.

Operating Limits

  • Membrane Type: Polyamide Thin-Film Composite
  • Maximum Operating Temperature: 113°F (45°C)
    • Maximum temperature for continuous operation above pH 10 is 95°F (35°C).
  • Maximum Operating Pressure: 600 psig (41 bar)
  • Maximum Pressure Drop (per element): 13 psig (0.9 bar)
  • Maximum Pressure Drop (across entire pressure vessel): 30 psi (2.1 bar)
  • pH Range - Continuous Operation: 2 - 11
  • pH Range - Short-Term Cleaning (30 min.): 1 - 13
  • Maximum Feed Silt Density Index (SDI): 5
  • Free Chlorine Tolerance: <0.1 ppm (Under certain conditions, free chlorine and other oxidizing agents can cause premature membrane failure, which is not covered under warranty.)

Feed Water

The TW30-2514 element is tested with a 2,000 ppm NaCl feed stream.

Product Water

For the TW30-2514 element:

  • Applied Pressure: 225 psig (15.5 bar)
  • Permeate Flow Rate: 200 gpd (0.76 m³/d)
  • Stabilized Salt Rejection: 99.5%

These values are based on test conditions: 2,000 ppm NaCl feed stream, 77°F (25°C), and 5% recovery. Permeate flows for individual elements may vary +/-20%. Permeate obtained from the first hour of operation should be discarded.

The use of this product does not necessarily guarantee the removal of cysts and pathogens; effective reduction depends on the complete system design, operation, and maintenance.

Mechanical / Hydraulic

(1 inch = 25.4 mm)

TW30-2514 Element Dimensions:

  • Maximum Feed Flow Rate: 6 gpm (1.4 m³/h)
  • Dimension A: 14.0 inches (356 mm)
  • Dimension B: 1.19 inches (30 mm)
  • Dimension C: 0.75 inches (19 mm)
  • Dimension D: 2.4 inches (61 mm)

TW30-2514 elements fit nominal 2.5 inch I.D. pressure vessels.

General Information and Guidelines

  • Keep elements moist at all times after initial wetting.
  • Adherence to operating limits and guidelines is essential to maintain warranty.
  • During prolonged system shutdowns, immerse membrane elements in a preservative solution to prevent biological growth.
  • Customers are responsible for the effects of incompatible chemicals and lubricants on elements.
  • Avoid any abrupt pressure or cross-flow variations during start-up, shutdown, cleaning, or other sequences to prevent membrane damage.
  • During start-up, gradually increase feed pressure over 30-60 seconds and achieve the set operating cross-flow velocity gradually over 15-20 seconds.
  • Avoid static permeate-side backpressure at all times.
