Summary
Product identification
FilmTec™Tape-Wrapped 2540 Elements are available for commercial applications, including those requiring high purity water or seeking low total system costs. These tape-wrapped elements are constructed with the same high-quality membranes and materials as industrial elements, but without a hard outershell, making them economical for commercial systems with one or two elements per housing.
Two specific products are highlighted:
- FilmTec™XLE-2540: Described as one of the most productive, lowest pressure RO membranes available, offering one of the lowest total system costs.
- Part Number: 154543
- FilmTec™TW30-2540: An industry standard for reliable operation and production of high-quality water.
- Part Number: 80643
Membrane Type: Polyamide Thin-Film Composite
Typical Properties
| Product | Part Number | Feed Spacer Thickness (mil) | Permeate Flow Rate gpd (m³/d) | Stabilized Salt Rejection % |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| XLE-2540 | 154543 | 28 | 850 (3.2) | 99.0 |
| TW30-2540 | 80643 | 28 | 1,000 (3.8) | 99.5 |
- Permeate flow and salt rejection are based on the following test conditions: 77°F (25°C), 15% recovery.
- Applied pressure for XLE-2540: 100 psig (6.9 bar) on a 500 ppm NaCl feed stream.
- Applied pressure for TW30-2540: 225 psig (15.5 bar) on a 2,000 ppm NaCl feed stream.
- Permeate flows for individual elements may vary ±20%.
Operating limits
- Maximum Operating Temperature: 113°F (45°C) (Note: Maximum temperature for continuous operation above pH 10 is 95ºF (35ºC)).
- Maximum Operating Pressure: 600 psig (41 bar)
- Maximum Feed Flow Rate: 6 gpm (1.4 m³/hr)
- Maximum Pressure Drop (per element): 13 psig (0.9 bar)
- pH Range:
- Continuous Operation: 2 - 11
- Short-Term Cleaning (30 min.): 1 - 13
- Maximum Feed Silt Density Index (SDI): SDI 5
- Free Chlorine Tolerance: <0.1 ppm (Note: DuPont recommends removing residual free chlorine by pretreatment to prevent premature membrane failure, as oxidation damage is not covered under warranty).
Mechanical / hydraulic
| Product | A – Length (inches / mm) | B – Diameter (inches / mm) |
|---|---|---|
| XLE-2540 | 40.0 (1,016) | 1.19 (30.2) |
| TW30-2540 | 40.0 (1,016) | 1.19 (30.2) |
- TW30-2540 and XLE-2540 elements fit nominal 2.5-inch I.D. pressure vessels.
- Maximum pressure drop across an entire pressure vessel (housing) is 50 psi (3.4 bar).
Important Information
- Startup: Proper startup is essential to prepare membranes for service and prevent damage. System checks (pretreatment, loading, instrument calibration) should be completed first.
- Avoid abrupt pressure or cross-flow variations.
- Increase feed pressure gradually over 30-60 seconds.
- Achieve cross-flow velocity gradually over 15-20 seconds.
- General Operation:
- Keep elements moist at all times after initial wetting.
- To prevent biological growth during prolonged shutdowns, immerse elements in a preservative solution.
- Avoid static permeate-side backpressure at all times.
- The customer is responsible for effects of incompatible chemicals and lubricants.
- Warranty: The limited warranty will be null and void if operating limits and guidelines are not strictly followed.
- Regulatory: This product may be subject to drinking water application restrictions in some countries; check status before use and sale.
- Cyst and Pathogen Removal: The use of this product alone does not guarantee removal of cysts and pathogens. Effective reduction depends on complete system design, operation, and maintenance.
