Summary

Product identification

FilmTec™ Reverse Osmosis (RO) Elements offer high-quality water for small commercial systems purifying less than 1 gallon per minute (0.2 m³/d). FilmTec™ Membranes are available in various sizes and FilmTec™ XLE extra low energy elements operate at lower pressures to reduce energy costs.

This document specifically details the FilmTec™ TW30-4014 membrane element.

  • Part Number: 80605
  • Membrane Type: Polyamide Thin-Film Composite

Operating limits

  • Maximum Operating Temperature: 113°F (45°C)
    • Maximum temperature for continuous operation above pH 10 is 95°F (35°C).
  • Maximum Operating Pressure: 600 psig (41 bar)
  • Maximum Pressure Drop: 13 psig (0.9 bar)
  • pH Range:
    • Continuous Operation: 2 - 11
    • Short-Term Cleaning (30 min.): 1 - 13
  • Maximum pressure drop across an entire pressure vessel (housing): 30 psi (2.1 bar)

Feed water

  • Maximum Feed Silt Density Index (SDI): 5
  • Free Chlorine Tolerance: <0.1 ppm
    • DuPont Water Solutions recommends removing residual free chlorine by pretreatment prior to membrane exposure to prevent premature membrane failure, which is not covered under warranty.

Product water

Permeate flow and salt rejection for the TW30-4014 are based on the following test conditions: 2,000 ppm NaCl feed stream, 225 psig (15.5 bar) applied pressure, 77°F (25°C), and 5% recovery. Permeate flows for individual elements may vary +/-20%.

  • Permeate Flow Rate: 525 gpd (1.99 m³/d)
  • Stabilized Salt Rejection: 99.5%

The use of this product does not necessarily guarantee the removal of cysts and pathogens from water; effective reduction depends on complete system design, operation, and maintenance. Permeate obtained from the first hour of operation should be discarded.

Mechanical / hydraulic

  • Maximum Feed Flow Rate: 14 gpm (3.2 m³/h)
  • Element Dimensions (inches (mm)):
    • A: 14.0 (356)
    • B: 1.05 (27)
    • C: 0.75 (19)
    • D: 3.9 (99)
  • Pressure Vessel Fit: Fits nominal 4 inch I.D. pressure vessels.

Operation Guidelines

  • Avoid abrupt pressure or cross-flow variations on the spiral elements during start-up, shutdown, cleaning, or other sequences to prevent possible membrane damage.
  • During start-up, a gradual change from a standstill to operating state is recommended:
    • Feed pressure should be increased gradually over a 30-60 second time frame.
    • Cross-flow velocity at set operating point should be achieved gradually over 15-20 seconds.
  • Keep elements moist at all times after initial wetting.
  • To prevent biological growth during prolonged system shutdowns, it is recommended that membrane elements be immersed in a preservative solution.
  • Avoid static permeate-side backpressure at all times.
