Summary

Product identification

FilmTec™ Reverse Osmosis (RO) Elements offer high-quality water for small commercial systems purifying less than 0.2 m³/d (one gallon per minute) of RO water. They are available in various sizes and provide reliable performance. FilmTec™ XLE extra low energy elements operate at lower pressures to reduce energy costs.

This document specifically details the FilmTec™ TW30-4021 element.

Performance

  • Product: TW30-4021
  • Part Number: 80608
  • Applied Pressure: 225 psig (15.5 bar)
  • Permeate Flow Rate: 900 gpd (3.41 m³/d)
  • Stabilized Salt Rejection: 99.5%

Test Conditions for TW30 elements:

  • Feed stream: 2,000 ppm NaCl
  • Temperature: 77°F (25°C)
  • Recovery rate (for TW30-4021): 8%
  • Note: Permeate flows for individual elements may vary +/-20%.

Operating limits

  • Membrane Type: Polyamide Thin-Film Composite
  • Maximum Operating Temperature: 113°F (45°C)
    • Note: Maximum temperature for continuous operation above pH 10 is 95°F (35°C).
  • Maximum Operating Pressure: 600 psig (41 bar)
  • Maximum Pressure Drop (per element): 13 psig (0.9 bar)
  • pH Range - Continuous Operation: 2 - 11
  • pH Range - Short-Term Cleaning (30 min.): 1 - 13
  • Maximum Feed Silt Density Index (SDI): 5
  • Free Chlorine Tolerance: <0.1 ppm
    • Note: Presence of free chlorine and other oxidizing agents will cause premature membrane failure. Pretreatment to remove residual free chlorine is recommended.

Mechanical / hydraulic

  • Maximum Feed Flow Rate: 14 gpm (3.2 m³/h)
  • Element Dimensions (inches (mm)):
    • A: 21.0 (533)
    • B: 1.05 (27)
    • C: 0.75 (19)
    • D: 3.9 (99)
  • Pressure Vessel Compatibility: Fits nominal 4 inch I.D. pressure vessels.
  • Maximum Pressure Drop across an entire pressure vessel (housing): 30 psi (2.1 bar).

General Information

  • Keep elements moist at all times after initial wetting.
  • For prolonged system shutdowns, immerse membrane elements in a preservative solution to prevent biological growth.
  • Avoid abrupt pressure or cross-flow variations during start-up, shutdown, or cleaning.
  • During start-up, increase feed pressure gradually over 30-60 seconds and achieve set cross-flow velocity gradually over 15-20 seconds.
  • Avoid static permeate-side backpressure at all times.
  • Discard permeate obtained from the first hour of operation.
  • The removal of cysts and pathogens is dependent on the complete system design and proper operation and maintenance.
