Summary

Product Identification

FilmTec™ XLE-2521 is an extra low energy reverse osmosis (RO) membrane element designed for small commercial systems purifying less than one gallon per minute (0.2 m³/d) of RO water. These elements operate at low pressure to reduce energy costs and allow for the use of lower cost system components.

  • Part Number: 154530
  • Membrane Type: Polyamide Thin-Film Composite

Typical Properties

Performance is based on the following test conditions for XLE elements: 500 ppm NaCl feed stream, 77°F (25°C), and 8% recovery.

  • Applied Pressure: 100 psig (6.9 bar)
  • Permeate Flow Rate: 365 gpd (1.38 m³/d)
    • Note: Permeate flows for individual elements may vary ±20%.
  • Stabilized Salt Rejection: 99.0%

Mechanical / Hydraulic

Element Dimensions (XLE-2521)

  • Maximum Feed Flow Rate: 6 gpm (1.4 m³/h)
  • Dimension A: 21.0 inches (533 mm)
  • Dimension B: 1.19 inches (30 mm)
  • Dimension C: 0.75 inches (19 mm)
  • Dimension D: 2.4 inches (61 mm)
  • Pressure Vessel Compatibility: Fits nominal 2.5 inch I.D. pressure vessels.

Operating Limits

  • Maximum Operating Temperature: 113°F (45°C)
    • Note: Maximum temperature for continuous operation above pH 10 is 95°F (35°C).
  • Maximum Operating Pressure: 600 psig (41 bar)
  • Maximum Pressure Drop:
    • Across an element: 13 psig (0.9 bar)
    • Across an entire pressure vessel (housing): 30 psi (2.1 bar)

Feed Water

  • pH Range:
    • Continuous Operation: 2 - 11
    • Short-Term Cleaning (30 min.): 1 - 13
  • Maximum Feed Silt Density Index (SDI): 5
  • Free Chlorine Tolerance: <0.1 ppm
    • Note: The presence of free chlorine and other oxidizing agents may cause premature membrane failure. DuPont Water Solutions recommends removing residual free chlorine by pretreatment.

Operational Guidance

  • Start-up:
    • Avoid abrupt pressure or cross-flow variations.
    • Feed pressure should be increased gradually over 30-60 seconds.
    • Cross-flow velocity should be achieved gradually over 15-20 seconds.
  • Keep elements moist at all times after initial wetting.
  • To prevent biological growth during prolonged system shutdowns, immerse membrane elements in a preservative solution.
  • The customer is responsible for the effects of incompatible chemicals and lubricants on elements.
  • Avoid static permeate-side backpressure at all times.

Customer Notice

  • The use of this product does not necessarily guarantee the removal of cysts and pathogens from water. Effective reduction depends on the complete system design, operation, and maintenance.
  • Permeate obtained from the first hour of operation should be discarded.
