Summary

Product identification

This document describes Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (RO) Elements from the Toray TM800C series. The membrane type is Cross Linked Fully Aromatic Polyamide Composite.

TypeDiameter InchMembrane Area ft² (m²)Product Flow Rate gpd (m³/d)Salt Rejection %Feed Spacer Thickness mil
TM820C-3708”370 (34)4,800 (18.2)99.7534/28
TM820C-4008”400 (37)5,200 (19.7)99.7534/31

Operating limits

  • Maximum Operating Pressure: 1200 psi (8.3 MPa)
  • Maximum Feed Water Temperature: 113°F (45℃)
  • Maximum Feed Water SDI₁₅: 5
  • Feed Water Chlorine Concentration: Not detectable
  • Feed Water pH Range, Continuous Operation: 2-11
  • Feed Water pH Range, Chemical Cleaning: 1-12
  • Maximum Pressure Drop per Element: 20 psi (0.14 MPa)
  • Maximum Pressure Drop per Vessel: 60 psi (0.4 MPa)

Feed water

Test Conditions:

  • Feed Water Pressure: 800 psi (5.52 MPa)
  • Feed Water Temperature: 77°F (25℃)
  • Feed Water Concentration: 32,000 mg/l NaCl
  • Recovery Rate: 8%
  • Feed Water pH: 8

It is strongly recommended to remove free chlorine and other oxidizing agents, especially in the presence of heavy metals, from the feed water before operating the RO system to prevent unexpected membrane oxidation.

Product water

  • Minimum Product Flow Rate:
    • 4,800 gpd (18.2 m³/d) for TM820C-370
    • 5,200 gpd (19.7 m³/d) for TM820C-400
  • Minimum Salt Rejection: 99.5%
  • Boron Rejection (typical value): 93% at pH 8 (5 mg/l Boron added to Feed water)

Mechanical / hydraulic

Dimensions:

  • Diameter: 7.9 inches (201 mm)
  • Length: 40 inches (1,016 mm)
  • Permeate tube outer diameter: 1.125 inches (29 mm)

Operating Information

  • All elements are wet tested, treated with tested feed water solution, and vacuum packed in oxygen barrier bags with deoxidant inside.
  • To prevent biological growth during system shutdown, it is recommended to perform 30-60 minutes flushing of Toray elements with seawater once every two days.
  • Permeate from the first hour of operation shall be discarded.
  • The customer is fully responsible for the effects of chemicals that are incompatible with the elements. Their use will void the element Limited Warranty.
