Summary

Product Identification

Pall's Membralox® ceramic membrane elements are designed for biopharmaceutical applications involving extreme processes such as high solids bulk processes, high temperatures or pressures, or aggressive solvents, requiring significant long-term durability.

Available ratings range from very low molecular weight ultrafiltration for duties like unwanted protein removal from antibiotic solutions, through to open microfiltration membranes (up to 5 µm) for processing difficult materials like microspheres or clarifying solvent-based plant extracts in transgenic processes. The elements feature an asymmetric membrane structure and compact multi-channel geometry optimized for bulk processing.

Membralox membrane elements are available in 3 different channel diameters for solids loading optimization. Some configurations offer unique longitudinal permeability gradients to control permeate rate along the module length. Sizes range from small laboratory devices to individual modules with over 20 square meters surface area.

Materials of Construction

Membralox ceramic membranes consist of a highly controlled surface membrane layer formed on the inner (feed-side) surface of a more open support layer.

  • Membrane Materials: Ultrapure, α alumina, zirconia, and titania. All are FDA-listed for pharmaceutical processes.
  • Membralox SD Sanitary Modules: Wetted materials: 316L SS, ceramic, EPDM or FPM.
  • Membralox HCB Industrial Modules: Wetted materials: 316L SS, ceramic, PTFE.
  • Membralox T1-70 Modules: Housing material: 316L SS.
