Summary

Product identification

The Pentair® Pentek® MPST-1.5 Multi-Purpose Stainless Steel Filter Housing is designed to accept either a 4-1/2" x 20" double open end (DOE) cartridge or a Pentek #420 Bag Filter. It comes standard as a cartridge filter housing, but an optional bag filter kit (part # 243111) can convert it for bag filter use.

Operating limits

  • Temperature Rating: 40-250°F (4.4-121°C)
  • Maximum Pressure: 150 psi (10.3 bar)
  • Maximum Flow Rate (housing without cartridge): 50 gpm (189 L/min)
  • Water Quality Restrictions: Not recommended for applications with TDS or Chlorides >1000 ppm and/or <0.5.
  • Pressure Regulation: If pressure exceeds 150 psi (10.34 bar) at any time, a pressure regulator must be used.

Mechanical / hydraulic

  • Housing Material: 304 Stainless Steel
  • Finish: Epoxy
  • Sealing Gasket: Buna-N®
  • Inlet/Outlet Ports: 1-1/2" side inlet and 1-1/2" bottom outlet (1-1/2" NPT pipe size)
  • Dimensions (Height x O.A. Dia): 29" x 6.38" (737 mm x 162 mm)
    • Note: Height does not include stand.
  • Maximum Cartridge Diameter: 4.75" (12 mm)
  • Features: Adjustable legs, side drain plug, multiple gauge ports, snap band clamp for quick access.

Cartridge and Bag Options

The MPST-1.5 housing is compatible with 4-1/2" x 20" DOE cartridges and #420 bag filters. The housing is sold as a cartridge filter housing; to convert it for bag filter use, the 243111 conversion kit must be purchased.

The document lists various compatible consumables, including:

  • Carbon Cartridges: Pleated carbon, granular carbon, and carbon block cartridges for chlorine taste and odor reduction, in micron ratings from 0.5 to 25.
  • Specialty Cartridges: Such as an Oil Adsorbing cartridge.
  • Sediment Cartridges: Polypropylene and cellulose polyester cartridges in various micron ratings from 1 to 75.
  • Filter Bags: Polypropylene Felt bags in micron ratings from 1 to 800.

Note: The housing will not accept GAC 20BB, BBF1-20BB, WS-20BB, or CRFC-20BB cartridges.

See the official PDF for exact tabulated values for specific part numbers, materials, and micron ratings of cartridges and bags.

Cautions and Warnings

  • Protect against freezing to prevent cracking of the filter and water leakage.
  • Do not use water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after the system.
