Summary
Product identification
- CARBFLEX™ SERIES OAC Plus Oil Adsorbing Filter Cartridge
- Utilizes Pentair Fibredyne™ technology, which chemically bonds with hydrocarbons.
- Removes dissolved, dispersed, and emulsified hydrocarbons from water.
- Can provide up to 8 times the removal efficiency of granular activated carbon filter cartridges.
Applications
- Contaminated run-off water
- Boiler feed water
- Bilge and ballast water
- Protection of membrane filters from fouling caused by oil contamination
- Industrial effluent treatment
- Desalination plants
- Oil and gas facilities
- Car and truck washes
- Surface water runoff (truck stops, airports, parking lots)
- Note: Certain applications may require pre-filtration.
Operating limits

Performance
- Removes dissolved and dispersed oils.
- Media can hold up to 340 percent of its own weight, with no release of removed hydrocarbons.
- Achieves up to 95 percent removal of total hydrocarbons in a single pass (instantaneous adsorption).
- Up to 8 times more efficient than granular activated carbon filters.
- Offers high flow rates and low pressure drop.
- Lower outlet levels of hydrocarbons can be achieved by connecting cartridges in series.
- The filter must be changed when its adsorption capacity is exhausted, as no appreciable increase in pressure drop is observed during service life.
Average Oil Removal (grams):
- 2.83" (72 mm) diameter cartridges:
- 10": 432 gms
- 20": 864 gms
- 30": 1296 gms
- 40": 1728 gms
- 4.63" (118 mm) diameter cartridges:
- 10": 1548 gms
- 20": 3096 gms
- 30": 4644 gms
- 40": 6192 gms Note: Operating flow will vary based on applications, type of pollutants, flow rates, and level of contamination. Based on manufacturer's internal testing.
Pressure Drop
A graph illustrating Pressure Drop vs. Flow Rate is available in the original document, comparing OAC PLUS 9.8 DOE, OAC PLUS-20BB DOE, and OAC PLUS 20 DOE models. See the official PDF for exact tabulated values.
Disposal
- Safe and acceptable disposal methods are recommended to meet all local and EPA regulations.
- The end user is responsible for safe disposal of used cartridges at their cost.
