Summary
Product Identification
The CARBFLEX™ SERIES OAC Plus Oil Adsorbing Filter Cartridge is designed to remove high amounts of dissolved, dispersed, and emulsified hydrocarbons from water. Its proprietary filter media, utilizing Pentair Fibredyne™ technology, chemically bonds with hydrocarbons.
Features and Applications
The OAC Plus provides significantly higher removal efficiency compared to granular activated carbon filter cartridges.
Features:
- Removes dissolved and dispersed oils.
- Media can hold up to 340 percent of its own weight, with no release of removed hydrocarbons.
- Instantaneous adsorption – up to 95 percent of total hydrocarbons removed in a single pass.
- Up to 8 times more efficient than granular activated carbon filters.
- High flow rates.
- Low pressure drop.
- Multiple sizes available for custom applications.
Applications:
- Contaminated run-off water.
- Boiler feed water.
- Bilge and ballast water.
- Protection of membrane filters from fouling caused by oil contamination.
- Industrial effluent treatment.
- Desalination plants.
- Oil and gas facilities.
- Car and truck washes.
- Surface water runoff (e.g., truck stops, airports, parking lots).
Operating Limits
- Maximum Temperature: 180°F (82°C)

Performance
The OAC Plus Oil Adsorbing Filter Cartridge typically reduces hydrocarbon contamination up to 95% in a single pass. Lower outlet levels of hydrocarbons can be achieved by connecting cartridges in series.
Average Oil Removal Capacity (based on manufacturer's internal testing):
| Cap O.D. | 10" | 20" | 30" | 40" |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2.83" (72 mm) | 432 gms | 864 gms | 1296 gms | 1728 gms |
| 4.63" (118 mm) | 1548 gms | 3096 gms | 4644 gms | 6192 gms |
Note: Operating flow will vary based on applications, type of pollutants, flow rates, and level of contamination.
Operational Notes
The change-out frequency will depend on the oil burden in the application. Because no appreciable increase in pressure drop is observed during service life, the filter must be changed when its adsorption capacity is exhausted.
Disposal
A safe and acceptable method to meet all local and EPA regulations is recommended for disposal. The end user is responsible for safe disposal of the used cartridge at the user’s cost.
