Cleaning, Disinfection & Preservative Solution

Chemically Enhanced Backwash (CEB) Chemicals

  • Sodium Hypochlorite (NaOCl): 1000 mg/l
  • Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH): 500 mg/l
  • Hydrochloric Acid (HCl): 1000 mg/l
  • Citric Acid: 1-2 %

Clean-in-Place (CIP) Chemical Cleaning Solutions (depend on pollutant)

  • 0.1 % NaOH + 0.2 % NaOCl
  • 0.2 % HCl, 2 % Citric Acid

Preservative Solution

  • Composed of water/glycerol/sodium metabisulfite.
  • Cleaning of preservative solution: Drain slowly with feed water for a minimum of 4 hours, using at least 12 m³ of feed water.

Cleaning - Disinfection

  • Chemical: 100 ppm sodium hypochlorite solution.
  • Procedure: Circulate for 10 minutes, soak for 1 hour, then drain until filtrate line is free from chlorine.
  • Note: Backwash procedure with treated/clean water at start-up process is advised.

Process Steps

1. Production

  • Forward Flush: Module is rinsed with feed water.
  • Filtration: Production is done.

2. Backwash

  • Drain: Module is drained.
  • Air Scourge: Membranes are scoured by air.
  • Backwash-Bottom: Module is rinsed with permeate water (flow top to bottom).
  • Backwash-Top: Module is rinsed with permeate water (flow bottom to top).

3. CEB (Caustic/Chlorine/Acid)

  • Drain: Module is drained.
  • Air Scourge: Membranes are scoured by air.
  • Backwash-Bottom: Module is rinsed with permeate water and chemical (flow top to bottom).
  • Backwash-Top: Module is rinsed with permeate water and chemical (flow bottom to top).
  • Soak: All valves closed, membranes soaked.
  • Drain: Module is drained.
  • Air Scourge: Membranes are scoured by air.
  • Backwash-Bottom: Module is rinsed with permeate water (flow top to bottom).
  • Backwash-Top: Module is rinsed with permeate water (flow bottom to top).
  • Forward Flush: Module is rinsed with feed water.
