Filtration Media

Granular and specialty media for depth filtration and polishing stages.

Filtration Media for Water Treatment

Effective water treatment relies on the careful selection and application of filtration media. AquaChain China provides a comprehensive range of media types, engineered to address diverse water quality challenges for industrial, commercial, and municipal applications. Our portfolio supports the design and optimization of pressure filters and multimedia beds, ensuring robust and efficient contaminant removal.

Oxidation Media

Oxidation media are designed to catalyze the reaction of dissolved contaminants, primarily iron and manganese, with an oxidant (often dissolved oxygen or a chemical oxidant). This process converts dissolved metals into insoluble precipitates that can then be physically filtered from the water stream. Our selection includes media specifically formulated for efficient iron and manganese reduction, as well as media capable of addressing hydrogen sulfide. These catalytic media are integral to systems targeting aesthetic water quality improvements and preventing fouling.

Depth Filtration Media

Depth filtration media physically remove suspended solids and turbidity from water. These media are typically layered within pressure vessels to create a filter bed. Our offerings include:

  • Graded Filter Sand: Available in various particle sizes (e.g., 0.4 mm - 0.8 mm, 0.8 mm - 1.2 mm) for precise filtration and hydraulic performance.
  • Anthracite Filter Media: A lightweight, angular media often used in dual or multi-media filters due to its lower density and larger particle size, allowing for higher flow rates and longer filter runs.
  • Lightweight Filter Media: Designed for specific applications where reduced bed weight or unique filtration characteristics are beneficial.
  • Hyper-Filtration Media: Engineered for enhanced turbidity removal beyond conventional depth filtration.
  • Graded Filter Gravel: Essential as support layers beneath finer media, ensuring proper flow distribution and preventing media loss during backwash. Available in multiple size ranges (e.g., 2.0 mm - 4.0 mm up to 8.0 mm - 16.0 mm).

These media are critical components in multimedia filtration systems, where different layers work synergistically to achieve high-quality effluent.

Adsorption Media

Adsorption media remove dissolved contaminants by attracting and binding them to the media's surface. This process is highly effective for specific chemical species. Our range includes:

  • Activated Carbon: Highly porous media used for the removal of organic compounds, chlorine, chloramines, taste, and odor. Available in granular form for various contact times and applications.
  • Granular Ferric Hydroxide (GFH/GEH) based media: Specialized adsorption media designed for the targeted removal of specific dissolved contaminants, including heavy metals, arsenic, phosphate, copper, zinc, and other unwanted substances.
  • Zeolite Crystals: Crystalline aluminosilicate minerals with ion-exchange and adsorption properties, suitable for various water treatment applications.
  • Kinetic Degradation Fluxion (KDF) Process Media: Utilizes a redox (reduction-oxidation) reaction to remove chlorine, heavy metals, and inhibit bacterial growth.

pH Correction Media

pH correction media are used to neutralize acidic water, thereby reducing its corrosivity and protecting downstream equipment and piping.

  • Calcium Carbonate based media: Slowly dissolves upon contact with acidic water, raising the pH and increasing alkalinity. This natural process helps stabilize water chemistry.

Selecting the Right Filtration Media

Choosing the appropriate filtration media requires a thorough understanding of the raw water chemistry, target contaminant profile, desired effluent quality, and system operating parameters. Key considerations include:

  • Contaminant Type and Concentration: Matching the media's removal mechanism to the specific contaminants present.
  • Particle Size and Uniformity: Influences filtration efficiency, head loss, and backwash requirements.
  • Bed Depth: Critical for achieving adequate contact time and filtration capacity.
  • Backwash Expansion Characteristics: Ensures effective cleaning and regeneration of the media bed.
  • Chemical Compatibility: Ensuring the media is stable and effective within the water's pH range and in the presence of other treatment chemicals.
  • Flow Rates and Pressure Vessel Design: Media selection must align with the hydraulic capabilities of the filtration system.

For precise system design and performance verification, always consult the specific OEM datasheets for each filtration media. These datasheets provide detailed specifications, operating limits, and performance curves essential for optimal system integration and long-term reliability.
