Summary
Product identification
- Product Name: BetzDearborn AP1140P
- Product Type: Flocculant / Sludge conditioning aid
Description and Use
BetzDearborn AP1140P is a high molecular weight, low charge density, anionic polymer. It is used to enhance liquid-solids separation processes.
Typical Applications
- Settles metal oxide suspensions in wastewaters.
- Settles precipitated hydrous metals in finishing water wastes.
- Reduces fines in scrubber thickener effluents.
- Provides a clean effluent from automotive oily waste treatment processes.
- Increases settling in chrome/cyanide destruct units and heavy metal separation systems.
- Reduces oil in refinery and other industrial wastewaters by improving air flotation unit and API separator efficiencies.
- Effective sludge conditioning agent for dewatering operations in the paper industry and other market areas, producing cleaner filtrates and improving solids capture.
Treatment and Feeding Requirements
- Preparation: Add powder slowly to the vortex of an agitated tank. Can be prepared using a dry feeder or an eductor. Do not add water to the dry polymer.
- Maximum Practical Solution Concentration: 0.5% by weight.
- Dissolution: Agitation (air or low speed mechanical, 400 rpm) for one to two hours until complete dissolution. Warm water (not exceeding 65°C) accelerates dissolution. Avoid high shear agitation after dissolution.
- Solution Stability: Dilute solutions should be used within 24 hours for maximum activity.
- Further Dilution: For enhanced performance, further dilute stock solutions to approximately 0.05% by weight (10 to 1). For dewatering applications, dilution to approximately 0.25% may be more practical.
- Pumping: Use positive displacement pumps (e.g., gear or piston pumps).
- Materials of Construction: Stainless steel, polyethylene, or PVC are recommended for tanks, pumps, and piping. Mild steel is acceptable only if corrosion product contamination is not critical.
- Dosage: Proper treatment levels depend on application severity and site-specific conditions. Use in accordance with SUEZ control procedures.
