Summary

Product identification

  • Product Name: BetzDearborn AS1002
  • Product Type: Liquid, high molecular weight, strongly anionic flocculant

Description and Use

BetzDearborn AS1002 is a liquid, high molecular weight, strongly anionic flocculant designed for use in industrial treatment programs as a coagulant aid or flocculant. It is suitable for clarification, thickening, and softening processes and is chlorine resistant.

Typical Applications

This product is ideal for remote plant operations or small volume usage due to its convenient, true liquid form that does not require extensive feed and makedown equipment. It forms a fast-settling floc in warm or hot lime/soda softeners, cold lime softeners, and influent clarification systems, resulting in reduced floc carryover and a cleaner effluent.

BetzDearborn AS1002 is also an effective sludge dewatering aid, producing clean filtrate, high solids capture, and a drier cake. It has been successfully applied to various types of sludge, including blast furnace sludge.

Treatment and Feeding Requirements

BetzDearborn AS1002 is an easy-to-feed liquid that requires no special makedown procedures. It can be fed neat with a high viscosity gear pump or diluted with water to any convenient concentration. Diluted product can be fed via a pump, eductor, or gravity flow. Feeding should occur at a point that allows good mixing without violent agitation, as high-speed mixing decreases polymer activity. Positive displacement gear or piston pumps are recommended for transferring the solution. Proper treatment levels are application-specific and determined by SUEZ control procedures.

Storage and Handling

  • Storage Temperature: Store at moderate temperatures of 4 to 32°C.
  • Freezing: Protect from freezing. If frozen, thaw completely and mix thoroughly before use.
  • Shelf Life: The recommended shelf life is six months.
  • Spill Handling: Spilled polymer is very slippery. Small spills can be washed down with copious amounts of water. Large spills should be contained, absorbed on inert material, disposed of as solid waste, and then the area flushed with water.
