Summary

Product Identification

  • Product Name: BetzDearborn CE1165
  • Product Type: Liquid, high charge density, high molecular weight cationic emulsion polymer

Description and Use

BetzDearborn CE1165 is a liquid emulsion polymer designed for solid/liquid separation applications and sludge dewatering. It is particularly effective for dewatering biological (secondary) waste sludges and functions within a total SUEZ treatment program.

Benefits

  • Increases efficiency of sludge dewatering operations.
  • Effective on biological sludge dewatering.
  • Improves suspended solids removal and effluent quality.
  • Creates large, faster-settling agglomerates for higher quality effluents.
  • Leads to higher solids capture, drier cake, and cleaner effluent.

Typical Applications

  • Sludge dewatering operations.
  • Wastewater clarification and thickening systems as a settling aid.
  • Secondary solids settling, thickening, and sludge dewatering in the organic chemical, oil refining, steel, aluminium, food, and paper industries.

Treatment and Feeding Requirements

Preparation and Agitation

  • Initial agitation: 30 to 60 minutes with a drum mixer or recirculating pump for homogeneity.
  • Daily agitation: Remix for several minutes; bulk system agitators or recirculation pumps should be operated for 30 to 60 minutes daily.
  • Avoid water contamination in open containers.

Stock Solution Preparation

  • Method: Continuous emulsion makedown unit or batch system.
  • Procedure:
    1. Fill preparation tank 1/3 full of water, ensuring agitator blade is covered.
    2. Begin agitation and slowly add premixed polymer through a disperser or into the vortex.
    3. Continue filling with water to achieve a 0.5% solution.
    4. Mix for an additional 10 to 20 minutes at low speed (350 rpm). High speed agitation should be avoided.
  • Dilution for Application: Transfer stock solution to a holding tank and further dilute to 0.2% before the point of application. Continuous feed is recommended.

Pumping and Materials of Construction

  • Neat Polymer: Can be handled by appropriately sized gear or diaphragm pumps suitable for viscosities up to approximately 2500 cps.
  • Suitable Materials: Type 304 stainless steel, polyethylene, and rigid PVC for tanks, tubing, piping, and pumps. Viton and fluorosilicon rubbers for pump components and hose linings.
  • Limited Use Materials: Flexible PVC tubing (e.g., Tygon®), Buna-N, and Neoprene rubber for short-term installations. Mild steel and copper alloys only if discoloration by corrosion products is acceptable.
  • Stock Solutions: Handle with the same materials of construction. Positive displacement pumps (gear or piston) can be used for metering.
  • Bulk Tank Storage: Requires a desiccant and agitator or recirculation system. Install according to standard SUEZ tank instructions.

General Properties

Physical properties are detailed in the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), available upon request.

Storage and Handling

  • Storage Temperature: Moderate temperatures (4-32 °C).
  • Protection: Protect from freezing; if frozen, thaw completely and mix thoroughly before use. Avoid rapid or repeated temperature changes that may cause condensation.
  • Shelf Life: Use within six months to ensure maximum activity.
  • Spill Handling: Spilled polymer is very slippery. Cover with inert absorbent material, sweep up, place in a waste disposal container, and then flush the area with water. Use sand, grit, or similar material for traction in wet areas.

Safety Precautions

Refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for detailed safety information.
