Summary

Product identification

  • Product Name: BetzDearborn CE1169
  • Product Type: Liquid, high charge density, high molecular weight cationic emulsion polymer.

Description and Use

BetzDearborn CE1169 is a liquid polymer designed for solid/liquid separation applications and sludge dewatering. It functions effectively in total SUEZ treatment programs and is a dewatering agent for biological (secondary) waste sludges.

Typical Applications

This product is effective in sludge dewatering operations, leading to higher solids capture, drier cake, and cleaner effluent. It is also used as a settling aid in wastewater clarification and thickening systems, resulting in improved effluent quality. Industries where it is particularly suited include:

  • Organic chemical
  • Oil refining
  • Steel
  • Aluminium
  • Food
  • Paper

Treatment and Feeding Requirements

Preparation

  • Initial Agitation: For initial use, agitate with a drum mixer or recirculating pump for 30 to 60 minutes to ensure homogeneity.
  • Daily Agitation: Remix the polymer for several minutes each day. Bulk system agitators or recirculation pumps should operate for 30 to 60 minutes daily.
  • Water Contamination: Avoid water contamination in open containers.
  • Solution Preparation:
    • Stock Solutions: Prepare using a continuous emulsion makedown unit or a batch system.
    • Process: Add premixed polymer to a solution preparation tank (approximately 1/3 full of water) under agitation. Continue filling with water to achieve a 0.5% solution. Mix for an additional 10 to 20 minutes at low speed (350 rpm). Avoid high-speed agitation.
    • Dilution: Transfer stock solution to a holding tank and dilute further to 0.2% before the point of application. Continuous feed is recommended.

Pumping and Materials

  • Neat Product Handling: Can be handled with appropriately sized gear or diaphragm pumps suitable for viscosities up to approximately 2500 cps.
  • Materials of Construction:
    • Satisfactory: Type 304 stainless steel, polyethylene, rigid PVC for tanks, tubing, piping, and pumps. Viton and fluorosilicon type rubbers for pump components and hose linings.
    • Short Term Use: Flexible PVC tubing (e.g., Tygon®), Buna-N, and Neoprene rubber.
    • Consideration for Corrosion: Mild steel and copper alloys may cause discoloration of the polymer by corrosion products.
  • Stock Solution Handling: Use the same suitable materials of construction. Positive displacement pumps (gear or piston) can be used for metering.
  • Bulk Storage: Should include a desiccant and agitator or recirculation system.

General Properties

Physical properties are detailed on the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), available upon request.

Packaging Information

Available in a variety of customized containers and delivery methods. Contact a SUEZ representative for details.

Storage and Handling

  • Temperature: Store at moderate temperatures (4-32 °C).
  • Protection: Protect from freezing and rapid or repeated temperature changes that may cause condensation.
  • Shelf Life: Use within six months to ensure maximum activity.
  • Spill Management: Spilled polymer is very slippery. Cover spills with inert absorbent material, sweep up, and place in a waste disposal container before flushing with water. In wet areas, use sand or grit for traction.

Safety Precautions

A Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) with detailed information is available upon request.
