BetzDearborn IEC2 is a liquid resin cleaner.
Description and use
BetzDearborn IEC2 is a blend designed to restore ion exchange resins by solubilizing and dispersing metallic and inorganic foulants. These foulants can include iron, copper, aluminum, and hardness salts. It aims to prevent resin degradation, restore throughput, and improve effluent quality.
Typical applications
This product is suitable for cleaning fouled ion exchange resins in various systems, including:
- Weak acid cation units
- Strong acid cation units
- Strong base anion units
- Filtration media and equipment
It can be used to control contamination and maintain performance in softeners and condensate polishers when diluted with brine during sodium zeolite regeneration. The frequency of application depends on the severity of the contamination. Out-of-service restoration may be required for severely fouled beds, with air lancing recommended for improved cleaning solution contact.
Treatment and feeding requirements
- Feed Point: Feed with brine in a tank or through the open manway in the resin vessel.
- Feedrate:
- In-service: 0.3 to 0.6 gallons per 10 cubic feet (3.9 to 8.2 L/m³) of resin, depending on severity.
- Out-of-service: 3 to 6 gallons per 10 cubic feet (39 to 82 L/m³) of resin, depending on severity.
- Dilution: Dilute as necessary in the brine tank or directly to the resin vessel. Water level must be even with the top of the resin bed.
- Equipment: A stainless steel transfer pump is recommended for injecting neat BetzDearborn IEC2. The product is compatible with most elastomers, plastics, and stainless steel. An air lance should be used for resin bed agitation during off-line servicing.

BetzDearborn IEC2 is supplied as a liquid blend. It is available through SUEZ ChemSure drumless delivery services for contracted quantities in certain regions. It is also available in 55-gallon (208-L) lined, non-returnable steel drums.
