Summary
Product Identification
- Product Name: BioMate* SAN9380
- Product Type: Liquid bromine microbiological control agent precursor for food processes
Description and Use
BioMate* SAN9380 is a liquid source of bromine (as bromide anion, Br⁻) used to control microbial populations, including bacteria, fungi, and algal slimes. It requires oxidation with chlorine or sodium hypochlorite solution to form biocidal hypobromous acid (HOBr).
It is used in various water systems, including:
- Once through and recirculating cooling systems
- Air washers
- Brewery pasteurizers and pasteurizer cooling systems
- Sterilizers
- Vacuum pump seal water
- Chilled water systems
- Heat exchange water systems
Effective control of microbial populations is essential to prevent biofouling, which can reduce heat transfer efficiency, increase energy costs, cause microbiologically induced corrosion (MIC), and lead to unscheduled shutdowns.
Treatment and Feeding Requirements
- Treatment levels and frequency depend on system cleanliness, nutrient concentrations, temperature, microbial types, pH, retention time, and other system operating characteristics.
- Must be fed in conjunction with, and intimately mixed with, chlorinated water or sodium hypochlorite solution before entering the cooling water. An in-line mixer is typically used.
- The ratio of chlorine or sodium hypochlorite to BioMate SAN9380 can be adjusted to optimize microbial control and cost-effectiveness.
- Feed control is managed by free or total halogen testing or online analyzers.
- Apply in accordance with use instructions on the product label.
