Summary

Product identification

  • Product Name: Butaclean 4701
  • Product Type: Dispersant

Description and use

Butaclean 4701 is a blend of anionic surface active agents designed to control the deposition of solids and other hydrophobic substances, particularly in butadiene extraction units and elastomer units. It is specifically used to control fouling in the recovery stripper of SBR (Styrene Butadiene Rubber) units.

The product helps control deposition of hydrophobic materials in aqueous systems, enhances particulate matter wettability, and remains stable at high temperatures. It is effective in aqueous systems where fouling or operational problems are caused by the deposition of solids or polymer, including non-volatile hydrocarbons that can form organic and tar deposits.

Treatment

Proper treatment levels depend on factors such as the severity of the problem, the nature of the deposits, and specific installation conditions. SUEZ control procedures should be followed.

  • Effectiveness: Proven effective at controlling organic deposits when fed continuously.
  • Temperature Limit: Stable at temperatures up to 121°C (250°F).
  • Typical Dosage: 5 to 50 ppm (mg/L) based on system circulation rate.
  • Severe Applications: Can require dosages as high as 500 ppm.
  • Foaming: Some foaming may occur depending on water quality and dosage. Testing for foaming tendency is recommended prior to injection. Foam may be controlled with low dosages of a SUEZ defoamer.

Feeding

  • Method: Can be fed neat (undiluted) directly from the shipping container or diluted with water to a convenient strength.
  • Recommendation: Continuous feed is recommended for optimum performance.
  • Compatibility: DO NOT MIX with other process or water treatment chemicals unless compatibility has been checked and approved by SUEZ Product Management.
  • Freeze Point: -2°C (28°F). Protect product from freezing.

Evaluation

For best treatment performance, the chemical program should be evaluated by periodically recording critical unit parameters such as heat transfer, pressure drop, and equipment cleaning cycles.
