Summary
Product Identification
- Product Name: Butaclean* 4703
- Product Type: Corrosion inhibitor
- Manufacturer: Water Technologies & Solutions (SUEZ)
Description and Use
Butaclean 4703 is a concentrated, water-based, semi-polar, high molecular weight blend of organic filming inhibitors. It is designed to prevent corrosion and extend equipment life by adsorbing onto metal surfaces to form a protective monomolecular film. The product protects against corrosion caused by hydrochloric acid, carbonic acid, hydrogen sulfide, and other inorganic and organic acids, along with oxygen. It is effective in hydrocarbon streams over a wide pH range, with optimal results in the mid to low pH range. It does not use halogens or heavy metals.
Typical Applications
Butaclean 4703 is specifically designed for use in butadiene, isoprene, and elastomer units.
Treatment
Proper treatment levels depend on the severity of conditions at a specific installation. SUEZ representatives will assess each application to provide cost-effective recommendations for treatment rates and control procedures.
Feeding
- Feed rates should be as specified by the SUEZ representative following a system survey.
- For previously untreated systems or those with known fouling deposits, begin feeding at low rates and gradually increase to the recommended maintenance dosage.
- Butaclean 4703 can be fed neat directly from the shipping container or diluted with water.
- For consistent corrosion protection, continuous feeding via a chemical proportioning pump is recommended.
- The injection point should be at least 15 pipe diameters upstream of overhead condensers.
- Use a dispersion quill or spray nozzle and a reflux slipstream for proper dispersion.
- Acceptable metallurgy for feed systems is stainless steel; avoid carbon steel.
Evaluation
Treatment effectiveness can be evaluated using corrosion test coupons, corrosimeter probes, tail water analyses for iron and copper, and visual inspection of equipment.
Safety Precautions - Typical Properties
A Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) with detailed safety information and physical properties data is available by contacting a SUEZ representative.
