Summary

Product identification

  • Product Name: Kleen* ENV907
  • Product Type: Liquid formulation for cleaning reverse osmosis (RO) membranes.
  • Manufacturer: SUEZ Water Technologies & Solutions

Description

Kleen ENV907 is an environmentally friendly, neutral pH liquid formulation designed for removing organic foulants, silt, and particulate deposits from cellulose acetate RO membranes. It contains a blend of solubilizing and complexing agents, along with a surfactant. It is recommended for use in conjunction with an acidic cleaner for superior cleaning results, leading to extended system run times and optimal membrane lifespan.

Features

  • Environmentally friendly formulation, free of EDTA and phosphates.
  • Specifically designed for cellulose acetate membranes.
  • Effective in removing organic foulants and silt.
  • Buffered to maintain an effective pH of 7.0 ± 0.5 across a range of dilutions.
  • Enhanced performance at elevated temperatures.
  • No adverse effects with repeated use.
  • Optimum results when used with Kleen* ENV903.

Typical Applications

This product is used for off-line cleaning of RO membranes to remove particulate fouling and scale that can:

  • Concentrate dissolved solids to precipitate on the membrane surface.
  • Cause scaling from hardness and metal salts.
  • Impede water flow and degrade product water quality.
  • Increase dissolved material passing through the membrane.

Indications for cleaning include:

  • Significant decrease in normalized permeate flow.
  • Significant increase in pressure drop across the system or stage.
  • Increase in normalized salt passage leading to unacceptable product quality.

Feed Requirements

  • Feed System: Apply using membrane cleaning equipment supplied by the membrane system manufacturer. Contact SUEZ representative if such a system is not available.
  • Dilution:
    • 1 pound (0.45 kg) of Kleen ENV907 per 5 gallons (19 L) of water.
    • 1 gallon (3.8 L) per 45 gallons (170 L) of water.

General Cleaning Instructions

  1. Inspect and clean the cleaning tank, hoses, and install new cartridge filters.
  2. Fill the cleaning tank with RO permeate or DI water and activate agitation.
  3. Slowly add Kleen ENV907 to the cleaning tank at a dilution of 1 pound [0.45 kg] per 5.6 gal [21 L] of water and mix thoroughly.
  4. Check and adjust solution temperature to the recommended level for optimal performance.
  5. Check and adjust solution pH to 7.2-7.5, or as recommended by the membrane manufacturer. Adjust pH upwards with NaOH or downwards with hydrochloric acid as needed.
  6. Circulate the solution through one stage at a time in the feed flow direction for 30 minutes at the manufacturer-recommended flow rate. Pressure should be less than 60 psig (4.2 kg/cm²) to minimize permeate production.
  7. For heavy fouling, divert the first return flow (up to 15% of the cleaning tank volume) to drain. Clean each stage separately in a multistage system.
  8. Dump and prepare fresh cleaning solution if it becomes turbid or discolored, or if pH or temperature move out of the recommended range. A new solution should be prepared for each stage.
  9. Rinse with RO permeate before returning the system to service.
  10. Divert product water to drain when returning the unit to service until residual cleaning solution is rinsed from the system.
  11. A soak period may be necessary depending on fouling nature; consult your SUEZ representative.
